Two reasons: First, having time to “hold it” in that crate teaches them that they CAN hold it, and it helps them develop a sense of full and empty, rather than having tiny little puddles around the house throughout the day that don’t help them build a schedule or learn to eliminate completely when they have the chance. Second, puppies are far less likely to potty or poop in the place where they have to stay. They really like to eliminate out of sight and away from their own living area, so eliminating in THEIR home (the crate) is the least likely place for them to have an accident. A young puppy may be able to hold potty and poop for 2-4 hours in the crate, but only Best Potty, Keep The Conversation Going, Potty Training Tips, Potty Training, Good Habits, Bad Habits, 4 Hours, Training Tips, Best Life

DON’T put a potty pad in your pups crate “incase they need to go.” Teach them to go potty outside. DO teach them the crate is a clean space where they eat and sleep to prevent potty accidents. Feed your pup all of their meals in the crate to help build this association. 2. DON’T talk to or let your pup out of the crate when they are barking & whining. They WILL learn this gets them what they want…and they will use it to their advantage. DO wait until they are showing you they can be calm and relaxed before releasing them. The crate is a quiet, calm & safe space for them. Not somewhere to throw a fit! 3. Shaina | Puppy Training and Care Tips on Instagram: "Bringing your new puppy home is such an exciting time but what do you do once you get them home?

These are the things you should focus on in the first couple of weeks of having your puppy at home:

🐾 Build your bond with them through games and attention. Learn everything you can about what they like and the things that make them happiest – this will help you when it comes time for training.

🐾 Introduce them to their toilet spot and continue to take them there regularly – don’t forget to celebrate all successful visits.

🐾 Set good sleeping habits with regular nap times. Your new puppy needs 18-20 hrs of sleep every day. Ideally they should be napping after every 30 minutes of awake time.

🐾 Introduce them to their name – say Puppy Needs, Bernedoodle Puppies, Nap Times, Bernedoodle Puppy, Potty Training Puppy, Happy Puppy, Sleeping Habits, Take Your Time, Puppy Training
