The magnet should be in phase with the base magnets. 🔸Take other ring magnet and insert on the top of pencil such that it should attract the front magnets on the base. The magnet should be slightly back from the base magnets. 🔸Balance the pencil and try to rotate it freely. It will spin for a long time. 🔷 Science behind : This setup is called Maglev. The applications of maglev in various engineering sciences are Transportation engineering (magnetically levitated trains, flying cars) In the vertical direction, the pencil is subject to the gravitational force and the front magnets exert a downward force while the back magnets exert an upward force. It’s the delicate interplay between all of these different forces that allows the pencil to remain stable and levitate in the air without any support. 📌 It takes trial and error to position pencil magnets perfectly. Once it’s done fix magnets with glue so that magnets don’t move. . #letstalk Have you done any science project recently for your child ? . Age: 6+ .
