Half the people were telling me they’ve been doing this for 30 years with great results, and the other half said this is terrible for silver. Here’s my take: This is an aggressive approach to cleaning your silver. Using it too often may cause a problem over time, especially with silver plate (which is what all of mine are). So my personal plan of action will be to use this method to initially clean my thrifted silver, and I’ll use silver polish to maintain. After I finish my experimenting, of course! Any recommendations for a good polish?! Go ahead and save this method if you want to try it:Line a basin with aluminum foil, shiny side up. Or use an aluminum disposable pan! Sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda and salt into a large pot of boiling water. You could also put them in the basin instead! Less risk of boil over that way 🙃 Pour into the basin. Place your silver into the basin, making contact with the foil. Watch the magic happen! Careful not to burn yourself, of course. Rinse really well with warm water, and dry with a soft rag! I hope this is helpful as Holiday polishing is upon us! Let me know if you’ve tried this, if you’re going to try this, or if you’re gonna skip it! And a big ol Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends! I won’t be hosting, but I sure will be baking. #holidays #thanksgivingprep #holidayprep #christmas #silver #cleaning | Lauren's Handmade Home

244K views · 8.3K reactions | vintage coach legacy zip # 9966 #vintagecoachbag #howto #howrestorevintagecoach #vintagecoach #thrift #thriftfinds #leather | By Bridget Brown | I swear every single time I say I'm going to give up on thrifting I find a vintage Coach bag. It's like reverse psychology thrift God manipulation. I don't know. This bag is pretty clean on the inside but pretty dry on the outside so let's see what we can do with her. I started off by cleaning her hardware which had a ton of vertigree so I wiped it down with a used dryer sheet. It really does the trick. Then I went in with some Brasso to polish her up. Here's a side by side comparison of polished and unpolished. Okay. Now let's focus on the most important part. Her leather. I'm using black saddle soap because she's a little bit discolored. I'm just lathering her up and then wiping her down with a damp cloth. Wait, I almost forgot to introduce her. This bag is called the legacy zip in style number nine nine six six. She first appeared in spring of 199-seven. She came in six different colors and retailed for $244. Okay, now that we've got introductions out of the way and we've cleaned up her leather, let's moisturize her with some leather CPR. I'm just massaging it in with my fingers and then I'm going to take a horse hairbrush and brush her out. I actually let her sit for about 20 minutes with the moisturizer on just to let it set a little bit before I start buffing. Now let's focus on her details. Typically I use an electric lighter for this but the one I usually use died on me so we gotta do this the old fashioned way. I'm essentially just singing off all of her loose threads. While we're focused on the details, let's go in and clean her zipper. I used a jewelry polishing cloth to wipe her down. And then I'm going in with this zipper lubricant. It definitely isn't necessary but I find that the attention to detail is my favorite part of these restorations. Plus noone wants to deal with the zipper that snacks. Ugh much better. We're almost done. I'm going to take black rock leather enrich and apply it focusing on her edges and corners. But I'm also going to apply it rest of the bag, think of this as like a slugging layer like in skin care. One last buff and let's get ready for her grand reveal. Here's the bag before and after. Let me know if you have any questions about the restoration process. And hopefully you can save a bag on your next thrift trip. Bye.

227K views · 2.5K reactions | CLOTHING MOTHS - THE MICRO WASP SOLUTION Recently, my daughter discovered moth holes in many of her sweaters while unpacking them. We tried various methods to eliminate the moths and finally found an effective solution: microwasps, also known as Trichogramma! It’s fascinating because these wasps are so tiny that they can’t even be seen with the naked eye! Here’s how it works: the microwasp eggs come on small strips that you hang in your closets or in any areas where you have a problem with moths. The eggs hatch in 2 to 7 days. Once hatched, the microwasps lay their eggs inside the moth larvae on your clothing, effectively killing them. The wasps typically die off within 7 to 14 days, leaving you moth-free. For a major infestation, you may need to apply three treatments, but one treatment should work for mild cases. Remember, it’s the moth larvae that are eating  your clothing (they thrive on natural fibers wool- cashmere-silk etc), but you should also address the adult moths! For that, simply use sticky traps. We ordered our microwasps and sticky traps from a company called Arbico Organics, but there are several vendors available. If you spot any moths, take action immediately to protect your wardrobe! #pestsolutions #moths #pestcontrol | Brunch with babs
