Objectifs
:

Sample 2. n-Hexadecylpyridiniumchloride monohydrate (8.0 g, 0.022 mol) was dissolved in de-ionized water (50.0 g, 2.77 mol) by heating.
After cooling to room temperature, aqueous ammonia (13.2 g, 0.25 mol) and ethanol (63.2 g, 1.37 mol) were added. The mixture was stirred for 15
min at 250 rpm and tetraethoxysilane (4.67 g, 0.024 mol) was added rapidly while stirring was continued. After an additional 2 h of stirring, the white
precipitate was filtered with suction and washed with 100 mL of de-ionized water and 100 mL of methanol. After drying overnight at 90T, the white
powder was calcined in air for a period of 5 h at 550 "C (hcating rate 1 Kimin). Every preparation was repeated up to 30 times with excellent
reproducibility. XRD patterns were recorded on a Seifert TT 3000 diffractometer using CuKa radiation of wavelength 1.540598 A. Diffraction data
were recorded between 1" and 25" (28) at an interval of 0.02" (28). A scanning speed of 2n per min was used.
