WMDoll is an adult toy manufacturer based in Zhongshan, in the southern Guangdong province of China. The company's latest love doll series, Metabox, is integrated with large-scale language models (LLMs), the technology behind generative AI services like ChatGPT .
Metabox connects to a cloud computing service hosted in a data center to process information from each sex doll. Metabox uses LLMs such as Llama, Meta's open-source AI model, so it can be fine-tuned and deployed in any region. WMDoll says it has received 'generally good' feedback about the integration of sex dolls and AI.
Speaking to Hong Kong media South China Morning Post about the integration of love dolls and AI, Jianxia said, 'The dolls will be more responsive and interactive, providing users with a better experience.'
'The next generation of sex dolls reflect the industry's open-minded approach to innovation to improve customer satisfaction, in contrast to traditional sex dolls, which are limited to simple reactions and lack the expressiveness needed to interact with humans,' the South China Morning Post reported.
Jancia said he began exploring whether AI could be used in love dolls immediately after OpenAI released ChatGPT in November 2022, sparking a wave of AI-related investment around the world. After a year of development, WMDoll will provide more than 100 MetaBox prototypes to customers in North America and Europe in 2024.
MetaBox has soft skin and genitals made of silicone or thermoplastic elastomer, and emits various sounds when touched. The latest MetaBox is even smarter, with the incorporation of AI, and can converse with users by selecting from eight different personalities.
At the time of writing, WMDoll's love dolls are priced at $1,500 to $2,000 (approximately 227,000 to 303,000 yen), but the AI-equipped models are expected to be priced at $100 to $200 (approximately 15,000 to 30,000 yen) more, and according to Jancia, a monthly usage fee will be charged.
To address privacy concerns, WMDoll has implemented a feature that allows users to delete archived data with a simple click of the AI. Jancia also noted that 'all data is stored locally in the region where the doll is used and cannot be accessed from WMDoll headquarters.'
According to Jancia, the Chinese AI model DeepSeek is not supported in some countries, such as Italy , so the company is 'considering its introduction.'
WMDoll's love dolls are sold under the names AngelKiss, Galatea, JKDoll and Jinsandoll, and about 90% of their sales come from outside mainland China. According to the South China Morning Post, about half of WMDoll's love doll shipments are exported to the United States.
In addition, WMDoll is working on developing a wearable device that will allow non-AI-equipped adult toys to access LLM, and in partnership with startup Mind with Heart Robotics, is developing a doll with realistic facial expressions, such as blinking and smiling.
