We've been having some discussions over the past 50 megaseconds or so about switching from semantic versioning to calendar versioning, and there's now a PlasmaPy Enhancement Proposal that would make this change official, starting with PlasmaPy's first release in 2023.

Versions would be of the form YYYY.0M.PATCH, where YYYY is the year, 0M is the zero padded month (01, 02, ..., 12), and PATCH is the bugfix release number starting with 0.
