cdnjs served over 195 billion requests in April 2020. 🖥
cdnjs used a huge consumption of 2.95 PB of data to serve these requests this month. 📤
That's over 98 terabytes of data and 6.5 billion requests each day (averaged). 🤯
In April, each request to cdnjs (on average) used only 15.09 KB of data. 🔍
Library highlights
This month we had a new resource at number one, WebFontLoader (webfont/1.6.28/webfontloader.js), with over 5.6
billion requests.
Last month this resource was the fifth most popular, entering the top five for the first time. Requests this month
rocketed from the 2.7 billion seen last month to 5.6 billion in a 107% increase.
The remaining resources in the top five maintained the same order as seen last month, with jQuery
(3.3.1/jquery.min.js) taking up second place and FontAwesome (4.7.0/css/font-awesome.min.css) in third.
jQuery received 5 billion requests this month, slightly down on the 5.1 that it had in March. FontAwesome had an
almost identical number of requests this month, going from 4.76 to 4.75 billion.
Across all versions in the top 100 (12), jQuery saw a massive 13 billion requests, consuming 365 TB of bandwidth.
An average of 444 million requests each day!
This was followed closely by FontAwesome as the second most popular lib in the top 100 overall, with 11.6 billion
combined requests across 10 files (5 versions).
In third place overall was CookieConsent2, receiving 7.4 billion requests for the 8 files in the top 100 resources.
GSAP came in fourth place, with WebFontLoader in fifth for overall resources in the top 100.

Total number of requests
The first important stat that we are given is the total number of requests sent to cdnjs.cloudflare.com.
Cloudflare provides this number to us at a 1% sample for the whole month, giving 1,928,330,243 at 1%.
This is 192,833,024,300 when multiplied up to 100%.
We are also given a number of requests for 3 days at a 100% sample, which is 20,239,069,530.
This is 202,390,695,300 when recalculated for the 30 days of April.
To provide the best possible estimate for the entire month, an average of both numbers will be used to generate the
estimate for the final number of requests for the month (75%: 1% month sample data, 25%: 100% 3 day data).
This results in cdnjs serving approximately 195,222,442,050 requests in April.
Over 195 billion requests or approximately 6.5 billion requests every single day of April. 📈
Overall this is slightly down on last month where we saw 199 billion requests, but per day this worked out to 6.4
billion, whereas this month we had roughly 6.5 billion requests per day (a 1.5% increase in daily requests).
Total bandwidth usage
Another great stat that Cloudflare has given us again is the bandwidth usage for the cdnjs.cloudflare.com domain.
This number, like total requests, is provided at a 1% sample for the month and in gigabytes: 32,956.25 GB.
This is 3,295,625.0 GB or 3.30 PB when multiplied up to be 100%.
Additionally, a 3 day 100% sample is given by Cloudflare at 189,726.11 GB.
This results in 1,897,261.1 GB or 1.90 PB for the month.
As with the total number of requests and due to the significant difference between the two, both numbers will be used to
calculate an average for the final estimate of bandwidth consumed this month (75%: 1% month sample data, 25%: 100% 3
day data).
This produces the estimate of 2,946,034.0 GB of bandwidth used for this month by cdnjs.
This gives cdnjs a huge bandwidth consumption of 2.95 petabytes of data for requests in April. 🤯
The bandwidth consumed by cdnjs this month is almost identical to the usage from March, with 2.946 PB this month and
2.951 last month. This is a very slight dip similar to the slight change seen in total requests. However, per day, cdnjs
used more bandwidth this month, consuming 982 TB per day in April and only 951 TB per day last month.

These are provided at a 1% sample for the whole of April.
Bandwidth is measured in gigabytes.
This data, as well as previous months' data, is available in the SQLite data.db file.
