VERMILLION, S.D. - The South Dakota State indoor track & field teams competed at the USD Alumni Meet Saturday afternoon at the Dakota Dome. Four Jackrabbits picked up first-place finishes and two others notched top-10 times for the program's record book.
RESULTS
"The meet provided our team with good opportunity to see where we were at after the holiday break," said Coach
Rod DeHaven. "I thought we competed with a good intensity and we look forward to being at home to build upon this week's performances."
On the women's side,
Jaiden Boomsma won the long jump with a 5.77-meter leap. She bested the next best finisher by nearly half a meter. Freshman
Lindsey Rotz also had a first-place finished for the women as she clocked a 5:08.84 mark for the mile.
Nicole Swanson, also a freshman, joined Rotz in the top-three with a third-place finish (5:10.84).
Other top-three individual finishes for the women included
Madison Kizer, who was runner-up in the high jump with a 1.70-meter jump.
Maggie Madsen was third in the 60 meters with a personal-best 7.84 time.
For the men,
Sam Castle finished in first place in the 400 meters (49.78) and
Cade Sanvik won the mile in 4:18.43, a new personal best. The Jackrabbits posted six of the top seven finishes in the mile with
Cashton Johnson (4:19.97 - personal best),
Dale Johnson (4:21.90),
Sean Murphy (4:23.95),
Keaton Olson (4:24.05) and
Ty Brouwer (4:26.27) following Sanvik.
Carter Toews (6.81 seconds) and
Evan Henderson (6.86 seconds) placed second and third, respectively, in the 60-meter dash. Toews' mark is the ninth-best 60-meter time in the Jackrabbit record book.
Caiden Fredrick placed third in the shot put with a 16.77-meter throw. That mark is a personal best for the sophomore and the eighth-best all-time at SDSU. Fredrick was also second in the weight throw (18.27 meters).
For other top-three finishes,
Pierre Lear was third in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.04 seconds and
Lucas Flemmer was third in the 200 with a time of 22.57.
Jared Lutmer (8:45.34) and
Luke Johnson (8:49.88) were second and third, respectively, in the 3000 meters.
Hudson Schroeder finished runner-up in the long jump (6.83 meters).
Brett Fraker jumped 13.33 meters to place third in the triple jump.
