BOSTON – The Boston University women's soccer program fell to UConn 2-0 on Sunday evening at Nickerson Field.
Hosting Terrier Tailgate in front of over 2,300 fans, BU (0-3-2) outshot UConn (2-1-1) 12-9. However, the Huskies grabbed goals in the 34th and 69th minutes to hand the Terriers their second shutout in 2024.

Lina Dantes and Chioma Okafor supplied the scoring for UConn, with Laci Lewis collecting two assists. Kaitlyn Mahoney stopped two shots in goal for the blank sheet.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gianino rattled off the first shot of the game in the seventh minute, floating the attempt narrowly over the crossbar.
- In the 13th minute, BU applied pressure in UConn's end. Gianino poked a clear attempt to Matthews, who blasted a 25-yard strike off the woodwork.
- Porta and freshman Jaiden Schultz had their own shots blocked in a span of eight seconds during the 23rd minute.
- On the Huskies' first goal, Lewis raced down the right sideline into the corner, crossing to a streaking Dantes for a finish towards the right post that put the visitors ahead 1-0.
- Fagan ignited the second second half with a shot after she settled a Terrier corner, but the ball trickled wide right in the 50th minute.
- Porta also had a chance six minutes later, with her 18-yard shot bouncing on one hop to Mahoney for the stop.
- Freshman Olivia Avellar's boot nearly provided the equalizer in the 58th minute. Mahoney dove to her left to deflect Avellar's 19-yard blast, then the ball caromed off the right post. UConn went on to clear the loose ball.
- Lewis once again gained possession on the sideline in the 69th minute, crossing from the right corner where Okafor sat near the left post. Okafor beat Braun to extend the advantage to 2-0.
- The Huskies nearly went up three goals in the 72nd minute on a corner kick, but Braun aptly read Taylor Jenkins' header to make the save.
STATS
- BU outshot UConn 7-2 in the first half, finishing the game with a 12-9 shot edge.
- However, the Huskies placed four shots on goal compared to the Terriers' two.
- UConn also sported the advantage in corner kicks, 5-3.
- Neither side sustained a card in the match.
- Braun, Gianino, and senior Allison Hanlon played the full 90 minutes.
NOTES
- Sunday was BU's first result decided by more than one goal.
- The Terriers had not lost a regular season contest by multiple goals since Aug. 31, 2023 at Northwestern.
- BU has outshot its opponents in four-consecutive matches.
- The all-time series moves to 8-5 in UConn's favor.
