BALTIMORE, Md. – With goals by juniors
Ryan Lau and
Damola Salami, the Boston University men's soccer team battled Patriot League preseason favorite Loyola Maryland to a 2-2 draw Saturday afternoon at the Ridley Athletic Complex.
The Terriers (1-2-5, 1-0-1 PL) extended their unbeaten streak against PL opponents to seven games by earning their second consecutive multi-goal performance in conference play. They are also now on a three-game unbeaten streak against the Greyhounds (0-4-3, 0-1-1 PL), who finished with a 13-8 advantage in shots and 5-1 lead in corners.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore and reigning PL Offensive Player of the Week Andrea Di Blasio nearly struck first in the sixth minute when he collected senior Andrew Rent's header and ripped a shot from the top of the box that went just over the crossbar.
- Rent had another dangerous pass during minutes later with a cross into a crowded box that a Loyola defender tried to clear up the field.
- However, Lau intercepted the ball and blasted a low grounder through the Greyhounds' backline and into the back of the net at 16:02.
- After Loyola's Dylan van der Walt stopped Rent's shot attempt at 20:10, Rent helped set up BU's second goal with a cross that Salami one-timed past the keeper for the 2-0 lead at 40:45.
- Unable to convert on four corners in the first half, Loyola jumped on the scoreboard at 49:21 with Caden Stafford heading in a long service pass from Jordy Lucies.
- Graduate student Andrew Wike stopped Juston Rainey's shot in the 73rd minute, and van der Walt smothered Salami's attempt two minutes later.
- The Greyhounds netted the equalizer with Olafu Dari Sigurjonsson flicking in Eddie Smith's header past Wike at 77:57.
- Both teams pressured the defensive backlines over the final 12 minutes but would finish in a 2-2 deadlock.
