Ed McGilvra joined the Sacramento State coaching staff as the defensive line coach in December of 2024.
McGilvra came to the Hornets after spending five years at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, Calif. During his final season, COC posted an 8-3 overall record, including a 26-21 win over Mt. San Jacinto in the Jersey Mike's Valencia Bowl. His unit was led by Jackson Stein who tallied 7.5 tackles-for-loss, including three sacks.Â
McGilvra joined the Canyons staff after spending three seasons at Moorpark College as the defensive line coach (2015-17) and special teams coordinator (2017). During his time at Moorpark McGilvra coached numerous defensive linemen that went on to continue their careers at four-year schools, with six of his former players receiving all SCFA honors and five signing to NCAA Division I programs.
Noted as one of the top trainers for defensive linemen, McGilvra has mentored Quinnnen Williams and Laiatu Latu. His clients have also included John Franklin-Myers, Michael Brockers and Kenny Clark.
