Initially, the FAA added to its procedures the definition of Runway Safety Area (RSA), which is a symmetrical space at the end of the runway to increase safety; both for airports in operation and for new projects, but when there are not ideal conditions to adopt a typical default security area qualifies this area as non-default. With the objective of overcoming these adverse conditions and minimizing the severity of an aircraft exceeding the longitudinal limits of the runway, an aircraft deceleration system capable of providing security regarding the referred event in the so-called non-standard security areas was developed. This deceleration system is usually called EMAS (Engineered Material Arresting System) and the analysis process for its implementation must be considered unique, as a mathematical model is used as the basis for calculation in the largest aircraft in the airport mix at a given speed, in addition to runway dimensions and mapping of local conditions and interference. This study aims to present the constructive details, functionality and recovery and a risk assessment of the EMAS system based on the events of the case study.

São Paulo State Test Track has been constructed to improve research in all areas related to highway without any cost to DER-SP or UPM. In São Paulo State has more than 10 thousands kilometers of soil-cement base course. Parts of these roads were made in the 70´s and after 40 years, the base course is in relatively good condition. If some rehabilitation of the road is needed, the problem most likely occurs in the superficial (surface or soil-cement base) layer. However, based on the field studies of soil-cement technology, the DER-SP has observed that the cure of this material is essential for its performance, mainly to avoid the cracking appearance. This paper reports a performance study in laboratory and in field of the different curing materials and when and how to apply curing over soil-cement courses.

Especially designed for compacted tropical soils, the MCT system adopts trial procedures for soil based primarily on mechanical and hydraulic properties. Secondly, this paper aims to submit an assessment of the first five years (1998 to 2002) of the inter-laboratory tropical soils program in Brazil, an important tool used for technological control. This program focuses on encouraging laboratories to improve the metrological reliability of their results, revisit and improve their trial methods, and provide information on how equipment, operators and the methodology can influence trial results and produce inaccurate measurements.

Established in 1994, the Technical Commission for Laboratory Trials in Civil Construction (CTLE-01) has been promoting and coordinating several inter-laboratory programs since 1995, relative to the following products: asphalt, cement, hardened concrete, concrete blocks, soils, aggregates, industrial mortar, steel, welded steel screens, ceramic and ceramic blocks. This paper presents an evaluation of two years of the inter-laboratory asphalt program conducted under coordination of LENC and CEFET-SP.

This material was used to substitute the pebbles taken from the Amazon River bed, considering that the removal of these pebbles produces a negative impact on the environment. The influence of the fine part of the material in the structural behavior of the mixture was analyzed, according to the restricted zone in Superpave (Superior Performing Asphalt Pavements) aggregate gradation. Numerical analysis using the finite element method enabled the development of a viscoelastic model for the wearing surface and an elastic model for sub layers of the pavement. Three mixtures were tested, with regard to grain size distribution: Mixture 1 went above the restricted zone, with respect to that proposed by Superpave, Mixture 2 passed through the restricted zone and Mixture 3 was below this zone. The results showed that: 1) Mixture 1 and Mixture 3 are more susceptible to cracking from fatigue; 2) Mixture 2 is more susceptible to permanent deformation; 3) the fine part of the aggregates influences the structural behavior of the asphalt mixtures; 4) the utilization of CDW is a good alternative to replace the round pebbles removed from the Amazon River.

This research studied the results of different dosages using steel fibers in order to optimize their use as well as direct care during mixing and application. The Portland cement concrete pavement has been acting with an important role on the Brazilian scenario and it is recommended specially in areas of heavy traffic or when the subgrade has a low load capacity. However, constant research has been carried for a better performance on flexural strength, decreasing the cracking due to shrinkage, reducing the noise level, and promoting a better adherence between tire-pavement. Several methods for the dosage of this material have been developed, but there is a need on seeking a determination that presents a better response in relation to the interested properties of the pavement. This research used a simple methodology, but adequate for the material, bearing in mind the assumptions necessary for the proper performance of the pavement. It was verified the performance of different dosages with steel fibers embedded in the concrete paving and also guidance on care during mixing and application. viii SUMÁRIO FICHA CATALOGRÁFICA ELABORADA PELA

Singapore. Singapore. July 27-29, 2016. Abstract: According to AASHTO Guide for Design of Pavement Structures (1993), subdrainage is an important consideration in resurfacing, restoration and rehabilitation of pavement systems. Deflection measurements taken at periodic intervals can be compared to those obtained after construction to determine whether or not drainage system is functioning properly. Using data from deflectometer measurements on an experimental highway sections, this study verifies the sensitivity of pavement structure to the deleterious effects under the presence of moisture within pavement structure by analyzing maximum deflection and other parameters to characterize the pavement deflection basin. Based on analysis of the results of deflection basin parameters under dry and wet conditions, using fatigue models available in technical literature, it was estimated the decrease of the remaining life of a particular pavement structure in function of subsurface drainage system. The likely performances of the pavement under different moisture condition levels are also analyzed through the reduction of serviceability using the AASHTO model.

The challenge then, is to manage the lack of resources, combined with the increasingly growing flow of light and heavy traffic vehicles, associated with rheological and hydraulic variability of the mechanical properties of the available materials. Within this social context, the roadway research center of the Centro Federal de Educao Tecnolgica de So Paulo (Federal Technological Education Center of Sao Paulo) devised an accelerated pavement testing equipment designed for studying, on a real scale and reduced time basis, the main mechanical phenomena that govern a pavement structure submitted to the mechanical force of a pair of wheels. This paper gives an overview of the design and construction of the accelerated pavement testing equipment, as well as of the preliminary results relative to the study of the performance of permanent deformation of hot mix asphalt coatings used on heavily trafficked roads, in accordance with standards of the Departamento Nacional de Estradas de Rodagem.

The correct management is essential to provide a good maintenance, rehabilitation, a safe and comfortable transport of these corridors for the user. Due to this, it is necessary to consider the aspects in terms of comfort and smoothness of rolling, the structural performance and the peculiarities of the bus corridors that have traffic during 24 hours per day. This paper presents a proposal for a developing a system of structure pavement management and some recommendations for the rehabilitation.
