When worried about catching colds, people show greater prejudices against those who are disabled, obese, or foreign. When romantic inclinations are temporarily intensified, men-but not women-become more creative, confrontational, and nonconformist. Encountering a stranger with attitudes similar to one's own automatically activates thoughts of kinship. Pregnant women are more ethnocentric than their non-pregnant counterparts, but only during the first trimester.
