decided to go to UK after a lot of thought. I really found that I could craft the program to what I wanted it to be. And the best thing I think about the program at UK is that you get so much concentration on a lot of different areas because you can do a dance minor, a vocal performance minor, and get your BA in theatre and the musical theatre certificate.”

PROGRAMS
The College of Fine Arts offers Kentucky’s broadest collection of visual and performing arts academic programs. What’s that mean to you? A day in your life as a CFA student... start your morning with coffee in hand and pen to paper studying playwriting; get messy in a three-hour ceramics studio class; push your boundaries and get physical in modern dance; contact a guest speaker for your student organization meeting, and end the night cheering on the Wildcats in Rupp Arena as a Pep Band member. Or, spend the whole day immersed in one art form, one composition, one script, one research project. It’s your education. It’s your future.

SCHOOL OF ART AND VISUAL STUDIES
As a School of Art and Visual Studies (SA/VS) student you’ll create and investigate in open studio spaces with advanced equipment in traditional and digital media. You’ll meet and learn from renowned artists, curators, and critics through our Visiting Artist Series. In addition to strong academic programs and supported maker spaces, we showcase an exhibition schedule of faculty, students, and guest artists’ work in the Bolivar Art Gallery. Your education will not only make you competitive in careers as a professional artist, educator, and scholar; it will also prepare you for challenges in fields outside the arts.
“I would not be where I am today without the help of my wonderful professors...I am extremely thankful that UK prepared me to become the artist I am today...I never expected to travel to melting glaciers so soon to create artwork with the goal of reaching out to others and challenging ideas of climate change.”
AMY HOAGLAND Art Studio alumna Winner of a Windgate FellowshipDEPARTMENT OF ARTS ADMINISTRATION
Arts Administration is the business of managing nonprofit and for-profit arts organizations in order to facilitate day-to-day operations and fulfill the organizational mission. Our program will provide you with a strong liberal arts education, an understanding of the business world, and a comprehensive education in one of the four arts disciplines of art, music, dance and theatre.
You’ll go beyond the classroom, applying information to hands-on work experiences including volunteer activities, internships and jobs.
Real-world skills you’ll learn include:
“…Arts Administration prepares you for this very unique field in a way that I’m not sure any other type of degree can. Each area of concentration can be as broad or specific as you want it to be, but I can say that I use the arts admin knowledge I gained on a daily basis in managing an orchestra.”

UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY
As a music major or minor you’ll interact with people at the highest level of educational/professional preparation in nearly all areas; we’re the only institution in Kentucky that offers doctoral study in music. You’ll have access to a hefty resource library and exceptional faculty. You’ll have opportunities to perform with our more than 40 ensembles and get involved with our many student groups, from a Korean Percussion Ensemble to Blue Note, our newest a cappella group.

“As a member of the UK Symphony Orchestra, I was privileged to perform some of the greatest repertoire on the most famous stages in the world. Now as a professional orchestral musician, hardly a day goes by when I don’t draw on those experiences as part of my career.”

UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY
As a theatre student you’ll get hands-on training and one-on-one mentorship from professional instructors and guest artists in acting, directing, playwriting, theatrical design, and technology.
In the first dance program of its kind in Kentucky, you’ll deep dive into technique, performance, and choreography.
From our mainstage productions to our student-produced shows, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to participate on stage or backstage.
Our musical theatre certificate will allow you to craft your own program as a wellrounded triple threat like recent alum Patrick Garr of Broadway’s Mean Girls and the Broadway tour of Hamilton.
Students in our cross-disciplinary filmmaking certificate practice the craft of filmmaking with courses in the Department of Theatre and Dance and the School of Art and Visual Studies.
“The musical theatre and performance training from UK has equipped me to transition into working with artists and songwriters in the country music industry. Musical Theatre and Country Music are at their core the same - it’s all about storytelling.”
