This stuff is brilliant for preparing both plywood and the slight gloss effect on the IKEA doors. Helps your finishing paint stick to the surface. 2. Choose your finishing paint and paint! We kept ours the same as the walls and ceiling to create that seamless look. Plus I’m so obsessed with the colour - ‘Mindful’ by @coatpaints (prev pr product). And a little tip I’ve found… I used a foam roller on the second coat and that gave a *chef’s kiss* finish 🤌🏽 3. Place skirting around the bottom and caulk to tidy off any edges 4. Handles… I looked for HOURSSSSS online to try and find something I liked and had no luck. We’d made solid doors from 18mm mdf for a pax hack before so knew it could be done. The doors are 37cm wide each and the stiles and rails are 7cm. Then the fun job of adding the hinges and painting. Hinges to match Ikea positions (you can change this if you want) -Top and bottom hole centre are 123mm from the top or bottom of the door -Middle hole centres are 1051 from the top or bottom of the door -Use a 35mm diameter Forstner drill bit 22.5mm from the edge of the door -The 5mm diameter holes are 32mm from the edge and 22.5cm from the centre of the big hole You can buy a hinge jig if you’ve got loads to do. Sophia Hardy on Instagram: "🌟 Customising our IKEA PAX Wardrobe 🌟 This DIY took me weeks. Each door was primed 2x and painted 3/4x & there are 4 doors so that equals 🤔……a lot of painting. As you can see we built & fitted the wardrobe before we added skirting & carpet. This was so the wardrobe would fit flush to the wall and steady on the floor. We added a simple coving from @wickes and we used a similar trim to our architrave from @skirting4u to give the frame some shape (other than square). I used @zinsseruk to prime the doors & wardrobe frame. I tried using a foam roller and it left small bubbles so I switched to microfibre and this worked so much better for a smooth finish. I also tried a paint brush and it left strokes which then had to be sanded back. Do save and hope it helps. ✅ Paint: Zoffany Silver ✅ Height of Pax: 236 (tallest size) our ceilings are 2’4 ✅ Self: IKEA Lack, we added an mdf side backing piece to support the shelf. ✅ Primer after sanding: Zinser Bin 123. Prices have gone up from when we bought our Pax but we paid £500 for the full Pax. Painting we did ourselves but we paid labour charge for a day to our joiner to help us fit it pax around the angled ceiling. It was such a problematic ceiling but now the Pax is on your can’t tell it’s there. I really do recommend them wardrobes and it’s been 3 years and still going strong.
