I liked the concept, but I keep running into a bug where if the opponent lands on a ? square, they refuse to pass the dice and I cannot proceed.
I got to do the top-down game once, and that was fun! Not sure what triggered it though...
I hope you get the bugs fixed, I would love to play more!
Controls were tough but once I figured it out, it was great. Great job!
Super cool game! Absolutely love the theme and idea. I ran into a couple of issues while running it and got stuck, but I absolutely loved what I did get to experience. It was cool seeing the upgrades / continuity between the two modes.
This seems like a pretty ambitious first solo jam! Making a game with two different sides is really tough, a board game is a cool way to go about it! I really like the pixel art as well.
At first I questioned having to press the space bar for each tile of movement, but I really liked it once I got used to it. One tip I think I would give you is next time try to add some more sounds! Sounds are the most bang for your buck you can get when it comes to game feel. If you can only add one thing make it sounds. I think if you gave each move of the tile a meaty sound it would have been really satisfying, just like exaggerating putting down a piece on a board in real life! I believe there's only one dice rolling sound, I'd try to get a couple for a common action you're going to hear a lot. However even if you have a lot, one thing I like on common sound effects is to pitch shift them each time they are played. I typically set it to pick a random value between 0.95 and 1.05 of the sound's pitch. That way if it plays the sound effect many times there's still a little variance. That range doesn't work with every sound so you'll have to tweak it, but its a good starting point!
Congrats on finishing your first jam! I tried a couple solo jams at first but never finished any until I joined a team. I look forward to seeing more games from you!
