In this series of tutorials, you will first learn how to install the Input System Package and quickly get set up with game-ready inputs. Next, you will learn how to script player movements as well as control your player using the game-ready inputs. Then, you will learn how to customize your own input actions, tailoring the input system to your own gamepad and keyboard devices. Finally, you will learn how to script player movement that especially takes advantage of the Input System API.

Next steps

Unity's Input System Package offers improvements in setting up, configuring, and handling player input in a more efficient way. With the Input System Package installed, you are able to script player movement by easily taking advantage of the specific commands needed to get your input devices working. In order to give the player movement along the ground plane, and to take advantage of physics properties from the player’s Rigidbody component, you will need to write a C# script.

When starting out with the Input System Package, you are able to easily use a default game-ready Input Action asset. In this tutorial, however, you will learn how to create and customize a new Input Action asset. This tutorial will instruct you how to set up and link specific buttons, joysticks, or keyboard bindings on your game controller device to be recognized by the Input System.

In this tutorial we will be taking a more streamlined approach to scripting device inputs via the Input System Scripting API.

For this tutorial, you will follow a step by step process of how to debug your inputs. This will show you the various areas you can troubleshoot your input and how to work with them

In this tutorial you will configure the Input System, and create the first input along with the corresponding C# script. 

Make sure to download the project materials below and import them into a New Unity project before starting.

In this tutorial you will setup the Input System to use the 1D axis to control a 1D axis movement.  In addition you will setup the Input System and C# scripting to use the Button and Modifier actions.

In this tutorial you will configure the Wheel Drive Component's Acceleration and Steering Inputs.
