LEIDEN, Netherlands, 2 April 2019—In transitioning into a research-intensive institution, the United Arab Emirates University has selected OCLC's WorldShare Management Services to bring added value to students and faculty.
WorldShare Management Services (WMS) is a cloud-based library services platform with WorldCat as its foundation, which allows library staff to draw on the collaborative data and work of libraries worldwide for more efficient workflows. WMS also enables staff to better manage resources in all formats and to provide their users with improved access to the library's electronic resources and the world's knowledge.
"The selection of WMS as a key element of the libraries' systems infrastructure was driven by the need for innovative and collaborative approaches to integrated discovery tools, content management and access," said Janette Wright, Dean of Libraries, United Arab Emirates University. "Moving to WMS also provides us the opportunity to join a global user community supported by a dedicated team of researchers looking to the future of knowledge creation and management, and digital scholarship."
"The university is transitioning to a research-intensive university and the libraries aim to support research, teaching and learning across the many disciplines of the nine degree-granting colleges," Wright continued. "The UAEU has been a pioneer in providing access to electronic resources in the Gulf region and by joining the WorldShare community, we will be able to further build our presence and reputation worldwide."
"We are delighted to welcome the United Arab Emirates University into the WMS community. The university wants to further engage with their community, both globally and locally. With WMS, they can better understand their library activities and share their work collaboratively, all whilst delivering more value for their users," said Eric van Lubeek, Vice President, Managing Director, OCLC EMEA and APAC.
