Nearly $7 million awarded in first Earthshot Prizes
The New York Times
Former MIT Tata Center Fellow Kevin Kung’s startup Takachar was one of the winners of the new Earthshot Prize, a newly established environmental prize organized by Prince William and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge. Takachar’s technology combats pollution from agricultural burning by converting crop residues into sellable bio-products like fuel and fertilizer.
Coupling power and hydrogen sector pathways to benefit decarbonization goals
MITEI
A team of researchers from MITEI and Shell developed a framework to study the role and impact of hydrogen-based technology pathways in a future low-carbon, integrated energy system, finding that co-optimizing electric power and hydrogen supply chain infrastructure can lead to emission reductions and decreased infrastructure costs.
The startup growing protein with robots to decarbonize agriculture
AgFunder Network
MIT Tata Center spinout FYTO is working to decarbonize agriculture and produces protein-rich aquatic plants that are an environmentally friendly alternative to typical animal feed ingredients.

🗓️ WHAT TO DO
U.S. C3E webinar series: Utility leadership in accelerating the carbon-free energy transition
October 25, 2021, 1:00-2:00 pm ET
Electric utilities across the U.S. are one of the most important players in the nation's efforts to transition to carbon-free electricity and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. As of September 2021, 72% of customer accounts in the U.S. are served by an electric utility with a 100% carbon-reduction target. Utilities and their customers are deploying clean energy and energy efficiency at a record pace in parallel with retiring fossil fuel plants. This webinar will feature three female CEOs of utilities that are leading the way per the Smart Electric Power Alliance's 2021 "Utility Transformation Challenge." The webinar will focus on the importance of cultural change and deep engagement with stakeholders and partners to reach ambitious carbon-reduction goals.

You can submit your questions in advance of the Q/A portion of the webinar in Slido.

U.S. C3E Women in Clean Energy Symposium and Awards: Justice and equity in clean energy
November 3, 12:30-4:30 pm ET and November 4, 12:00-3:30 pm ET
Clean energy, environmental justice, and social equity are at a critical juncture in the United States. All Americans should share in the benefits of the energy transition regardless of income, race, ethnicity, gender, and geographic location. These benefits include sustainable energy technologies, new job opportunities, healthier people, and a healthier planet. At this year’s 10th U.S. C3E Women in Clean Energy Symposium and Awards, thought leaders will discuss the latest advances in the energy transition, this year’s U.N. Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), what lessons the United States can learn from other countries, and which U.S. successes are replicable in other countries, especially those with developing economies.
