Must Love Dogs - Saving NYC Dogs - SAFE - 11/16/2018 PULLED BY AMSTERDOG. PLEASE HONOR YOUR PLEDGES http://amsterdog.org/donate/ “Joey struggled to walk to the office. He had a low body posture and low tail. The owner collared him, and after he started to wag his tail.” We think that statement by the intake staff tells the story of this poor, sweet boy. He is not aggressive, not one bit. He is a timid little wallflower, a boy who loves deeply, is submissive, who looked to his parent for comfort and safety upon entering the shelter where he could barely walk (almost crawled) across the office he was so scared…..and then….. and then he wagged his tail. That was the moment he was betrayed. That was the moment his fate was sealed. His trust in his parent, trying to wag his tail, only to them walk away and out of his life forever. Our hearts are broken. So is Joey’s. He loved his family, he played exuberantly with the other dogs he lived with, and he spent most of his time following his parents around the house to be near them. You have only to look at his eyes in his photos – eyes so filled with confusion, pleading with the people behind the camera to just bring him back to his parent, to the home he loves. It’s simply imperative that we find Joey a loving home. He is crate trained, he is mostly housetrained, he loves toys, and he would be the most loving, loyal, companion you could ever ask for – because Joey is the type of boy who would read your emotions, and try to cheer you up when you are sad, and wag his tail furiously and give kisses when you are happy. Don’t let him die….foster or adopt him now. PRIVATE MESSAGE our page or email us at MustLoveDogsNYC@gmail.com for assistance. He must go to an experienced adult only home (no kids under Age 13) and you need to fill out applications to save his life. JOEY, ID 46112 @ 3 YRS. Old, 52.6 lbs. SHELTER ASSESSMENT – DATE OF ASSESSMENT: 11/11/2018 Summary:: Though he has shown some improvement during his stay, Joey remains fearful towards strangers and startles easily; because of these concerns, he is not an appropriate candidate for an assessment at this time. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR - Date of initial:: 10/31/2018. Summary:: Moves away, very nervous ENERGY LEVEL:: Joey is reported to have a high energy level in his previous home environment; in the care center he has displayed a low energy level. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable Recommendations:: No children (under 13),No cats,Place with a New Hope partner Recommendations comments:: No cats: Joey is reported to lunge towards cats, for this reasons we believe a home without any cats would be most beneficial at this time. No children (under 13): Due to Joey's high level of fear and propensity to startle easily, an adult only is highly advised until he can appropriately acclimate and decompress to a new home environment. New Hope Only: Joey remains fearful in the care center, particularly towards strangers in line with what his previous owner reports. He is not thriving in the shelter environment and has had a hard time with handling in the care center most times. He has generally given clear and protracted warnings and has not escalated to threatening behavior, but we are concerned that extra pressure may elicit higher level warnings. We feel that placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification guidance in a stable home environment will best set Joey up for success in a future adoptive home. We recommend only force-free, reward-based training methods as more aversive techniques will likely increase fear and increase the risk of aggression. Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression Potential challenges comments:: Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Joey has been observed to display fearful behavior during his stay at our care centers, at times avoiding interaction and shying away from direct touch. Joey startles easily and is made uncomfortable by loud noises and sudden movement. He displays proper warning signals as well as increasing distance from anything that may present a threat. We cannot be certain if any other behavior is suppressed as a result of his environment. A period of decompression is advised before introduction or exposure to new and unfamiliar situations. Force-free, reward based training is advised. MEDICAL NOTES: 31/10/2018 [DVM Intake] DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 3 years Microchip noted on Intake?
