The Brotherhood | 1913 Beta Chapter, Alpha Phi Alpha, Howard University, 1913. Alpha Phi Alpha (ΑΦΑ) was the first Inter-Collegiate Black Greek Letter fraternity. It was founded on December 4, 1906 at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Alpha Phi Alpha developed a model that was used by the many Black Greek Letter Organizations (BGLOs) that soon followed in its footsteps.

On April 28th, 1867, Pi Beta Phi was founded at Holt House at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois.
The Iota Alpha Chapter at Texas State University was installed on April 11, 1964 and celebrates their 50th Anniversary in 2014. The Alpha Tau Chapter from the University of Texas assisted in the initiation of the charter members. At the installation banquet, 218 guests were in attendance.
These six members of Iota Alpha Chapter were in the filming of a movie in 1972 as part of the Southwest Texas State University Strutter precision dance team.
Gamma Nu, installed March 26, 1949, was the first chapter of Delta Zeta to be installed at a teacher college institution, called Eastern Illinois State College at the time of the chapter’s installation. Gamma Nu was originally a local sorority, Phi Beta.
