Rather than letting it dampen your spirits, why not put a positive spin on the wet weather with this kid friendly project harnessing the power of the water to transform scribbles into masterpieces! I've been inspired once again by @sibster who made some gorgeous coffee filter roses using food colouring. I don't have coffee filters and I only have gel food colouring...so we used what we had, and ours are kitchen roll (2-ply, so 2 layers each time!) stained with felt tips. The painterly effect is all down to the blending of the colours when wet. We found it's worth using more intense colours for this as the pale

It is just so vibrant and luminous every time, and perfect for the stylised fish scale effect here. Of course, you could use hot glue to draw on scale shapes and wrap the foil over those, but the beauty of this string method (originally by @nylah.khan) is that the kids can be involved in every stage, and it really is minimal prep. Questions I am often asked: 💖 You need permanent markers to get this effect. Normal felt tips will not work. We’re going to be using them to keep Rosie’s hair, ties, hair, clips, etc. I started by removing the label and painting them with acrylic paint (2 coats) I chose a pretty napkin, cut the flowers out and separated the plies, leaving only the top layer. Then I added them to my jar using mod podge, but other types of glue would work as well as long as they dry clear. I painted the rim gold just because I thought it would be really pretty and I let them dry. That’s it! You can seal these with a clear sealer, but I haven’t done that yet. Overall, I am pretty happy with the way they turned out. let me know what you think of this upcycled DIY"
