This work, ‘Water Into Wood’ has just been acquired by a collector via @wentworth_galleries and that makes my heart warm. It left the studio right after I finished it, so I didn’t get enough time to muse on it day after day. Giving it a permanent space here 🤍
Glowing scene of late summer flowers in soft pastel by Valerie McKeehan
Confession: I cried while painting this piece. It was the right song with the right moment in the process and I just felt overcome by the joy of it. I spent most of my career not understanding what it meant to enjoy the process. I was always rushing, overwhelmed, trying to keep up, fearful, focused on the end result because of the pressure and deadlines. I still fight this pattern of overwhelm that my mind memorized through the years. But not today. Painting this was pure joy, not just for what is materialized at the end, but for the entirety of the experience. It was magic and medicine to me. 🤍 Have you ever been overcome with happy tears while creating? Thank you to @stephenthegardener for allowing me to use his lovely sun-drenched flowers as a reference for this painting. 🤍
