The Martin-Gatton Student Enhancement Fund is designed to advance student success initiatives outside of the classroom. Through the generosity of our donors, Martin-Gatton CAFE students are able to explore valuable experiential learning opportunities, leadership development at conferences, internships, professional development and more.
Frequently Asked Questions
Registered full-time degree-seeking undergraduate students in the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment in good academic standing. Funds must be utilized while still registered as a full-time degree-seeking undergraduate student.
Funds shall be used to support activities that advance the academic and/or professional development. Examples of such activities include the following:
Domestic travel to leadership-focused conferences (registration, transportation, meals, accommodations).
Domestic travel to workshops (registration, transportation, meals, accommodations).
Support for study abroad opportunities related to the student’s major.
Expenses related to professional and graduate school preparation.
The Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment has a separate application for funds to support undergraduate research opportunities. Funding cannot be used to pay tuition or fees, nor can it be used to fund salary for an unpaid internship. These funds are intended to subsidize a student’s budget and should not be viewed as an exclusive source of funding.
Awards are available for up to $500 providing funding is available. Funds are awarded twice per year, once during the Fall semester and once during the Spring semester.
Students may receive funding once per fiscal year. The fiscal year begins on July 1st and ends on June 30th.
To apply for funding, complete the application including a proposal statement, letter of acceptance (if applicable), budget, resume, and faculty letter of support (please allow sufficient time for your faculty member to complete the letter).
Within two weeks after the experience, students should submit a reflection describing the impact of the experience. Additional details will be provided at the time of the award.
If you receive funds that cover a non-refundable deposit for an opportunity and do not participate, you will be required to return the funds used to pay the deposit. If you are required to return all or a portion of the funds for any reason, a hold will be placed on your university account that will prevent registration for future terms and/or mailing of your diploma until funds have been returned.
May/August graduates: Funding will not be allocated for activities occurring after April 1 of a student's final year at the University of Kentucky.
December graduates: Funding will not be allocated for activities occurring after November 1 of a student's final year at the University of Kentucky.
The deadline for the Spring 2025 semester is Friday, February 28, 2025 at 11:59 pm (eastern time zone).
