Update to Operational MRMS at NCEP

Hi everyone,

This message is for those requesting data from the operational MRMS and those interested in the latest happenings.

The team at NCEP will update the operational MRMS system today (Tuesday Jan 20, 2015) with a patch.  Here's a list of the included updates...

1.  "MRMS_" prepended to GRIB2 files.  Anything using the NOTHER feedtype has not changed names.
2.  Updated GRIB2 products to reduce file size and correct minor issues with the grid definition section.
3.  Changed units for following products:  LightningProbabilityNext30min, MergedAzShear, RotationTracks, H50_Above_-20C, H50_Above_0C, H60_Above_-20C, H60_Above_0C (see table at http://www.nssl.noaa.gov/projects/mrms/operational/tables.php)
4. Updated QPE products to properly label areas of no data coverage.
5.  Corrections made to the NIDS products for Composite Reflectivity, Reflectivity at Lowest Altitude, and VIL.
6.  Addition of 1 and 3-hour QPEs in NIDS radar format.
7.  Addition of Canada radar data to the GaugeCorr_QPE and MountainMapper_QPE products.
8.  Improved the Base Reflectivity, Raw (unQC'd) Composite Reflectivity and Raw Reflectivity At Lowest Altitude products, which suffered sporadic radar dropouts.

Please note that item #1 will likely require changes to your LDM configuration with respect to the operational system.

Let this email also serve as a friendly reminder that the operational MRMS data is now available, and NSSL will be ending its data service at the beginning of March.

Thank you,
Carrie Langston
