Everything we have is free. 

It is possible to request a subset of data from an upstream feed site
via the LDM. The amount of disk storage space you require is
dependent on how much data you require.

When determining the types of resources you will require, it really
depends on how much other work the machine doing the LDM ingest is
doing. If you are just using a Linux PC to receive the data via LDM,
you probably can start in the relm of a 300MHZ Pentium machine
with 256MB of RAM. From there, depending on how many data decoders 
you have running on the machine, as well as other hosts you intend to
serve within a lab or university, faster machines with more memory
will really benefit your server.

We have a 2 CPU Pentium 550MHZ with 1GB or RAM running Solaris ingesting 
our full suite of data and running all the GEMPAK and McIDAS decoders
for testing our packages. We generally run our packages on other desktop
machines that mount the data directories off the data server. We have
user directories, mail, web servers etc on different machines from the
LDM host. 

You can download the LDM software from our web pages (or anonymous FTP server).
The web pages detail the process for installing the LDM and for requesting
a connection to the IDD topology (to be assigned an upsteam feed host
in your area).

The analysis and display packages (GEMPAK and McIDAS) are downloaded from
password protected accounts. The passwords are provided upon request 
once we have your license information.
