Luis,

>Hi. I'm having problems now with McIDAS. For some reason I can't get
>it to display the images using the f-key menu. Or by hand for that
>matter.

As the user 'mcidas'? I just logged onto atmos.uprm.edu and was able
to not only list images from RTIMAGES/GE-IR, but display the latest
as well. I did this by hand:

<login as 'mcidas'>
cd workdata
imglist.k RTIMAGES/GE-IR.ALL
Image file directory listing for:RTIMAGES/GE-IR
Pos Satellite/ Date Time Center Band(s)

Please send the exact commands that you tried to run by hand and the
output from those commands.

I am unsure of what you mean by "downloaded images". Were you unsuccessful
in displaying images from the BLIZZARD dataset? Your 'mcidas' account
is setup to access the BLIZZARD dataset from the machine adde.ucar.edu.
From your 'mcidas' account, I was able to list and display images from
this dataset while on your machine:

mcidas@atmos:~/workdata$ dsinfo.k I BLIZZARD

Dataset Names of Type: IMAGE in Group: BLIZZARD

>I tried to make it work for a while,
>but I didn't want to mess anything up. It's probably something I'm doing
>wrong,

In order to see what you may be doing wrong, I need to know:

o what account you are trying the image displays from
o the exact commands that you are running
o the output from those commands

>I need to be able to do the correct imgdisp on those sattelite
>images in order to be able to save them to disk, or is there a better way
>to archive images?

When you say "archive images", what exactly do you mean? The images
from the RTIMAGES dataset are already on your disk. They are sent to
you by the IDD and written to disk by the ldm-mcidas decoder pnga2area.
Are you referring to displaying the image(s) and then saving a GIF (tm)
or other raster format (e.g., JPEG, BMP, etc.)?

>That's the way it used to be done. Thanks,

It would be most helpful if you would explain exactly what you are trying
to accomplish.
