Randy,

>Happy new year.

Same to you!

>i recall last november you were going to post a mcidas7.8 addendum. Is this
>still the case?

Yes, I announced this the day after Christmas. Since you didn't know
about the availability of Unidata McIDAS-X 7.804, it tells me that you
are not on the Unidata McIDAS-X email list:

address@hidden

I am putting you on this list so that you will get notifications about
addenda, etc. Please let me know if you do _not_ want to be on this
list. Since it is pretty quiet (too quiet if you ask me), you will
not be innundated with email from the list.

For completeness, I am including the text of my addendum announcement:

Unidata McIDAS-X Users,

A jumbo addendum to Unidata McIDAS, Version 7.804, is now available
for download.

The 7.804 addendum contains all Unidata modifications and additions to
Unidata McIDAS 7.80 since its initial release in August in addition to
all SSEC 7.8 addenda.

Highlights of the changes 7.804 include:

o sites can now use the GNU Fortran compiler, g77, in combination with
the GNU C compiler, gcc, to build McIDAS-X and McIDAS-XCD. Builds
using the gcc/g77 combination have been extensively tested on
Sun Solaris platforms (SPARC and x86). Other Unidata-supported
platforms have been tested for McIDAS-X, but not for McIDAS-XCD.

NOTE: Sites that have vendor-supplied compilers available are advised
to continue using those compilers. Performance tests conducted in
the past by SSEC indicated that code compiled with gcc may not perform
as well as code compiled using vendor compilers.

o a number of new map outline files have been included. These provide
  support for US highways and interstates; US state roads; US railines;
US canals; US and world rivers; major world lakes; much higher
resolution US counties; and global tectonic plate boundaries.

o new, higher resolution versions of the US State, County, and Zone
  map files (USSTATE.MAP, USCOUNTY.MAN, and USZONE.MAP)

o 37 new grayscale and color image enhancements. These were created from
definitions available on the CSU/CIRA site:

  http://www.cira.colostate.edu/ramm/visit/istpds/awips/lookup.html

o augmented functionality in the MCGUI interface which includes new
ADDE server sites for MCGUI-supported datasets; access to the new
image enhancements; saving and restoring frame contents in McIDAS
PIX format; and an interface to the AREA file dump routine, AXFORM.

o numerous bugfixes and program enhancements for -X and -XCD functions

More detailed information on the modifications made in 7.804 and
instructions for its installation can be found in the Unidata McIDAS-X
