Hi Rick,

re: user's S-VISSR image file

>Any word on this? Otherwise I'll close the inquiry.

The user's machine was out of service until this morning. I just
downloaded one of his "S-VISSR" image files and an associated doc
file. I put them in the pub/mcidas/data directory of anonymous
FTP on our FTP server, ftp.unidata.ucar.edu for you to grab. The
file is named svissr.tar.gz.

Thanks for the help.

Tom

Hi Tom,

The short answer is no. JMA is taking the GOES-9 data and
retransmitting it in raw GMS format. So in theory a GMS-SDI ingestor
could handle the data, probably not the most economical choice. Dee
mentioned that all the GOES-9 data has been archived and is freely
available (theres a phrase rarely used these days) to students in the
.edu domain. If the user request a large amount of data, a charge will
occur. Large amount is subjective, if they ask for a years worth of
data, the answer will be no, also depends on current log of requests.

Hope this helps,

Rick
