Kintsugi (translated from japanese as “golden joinery,” but means so much more) is the Japanese art of mending broken pottery by filling the cracks with lacquer resin sprinkled with powdered gold. As an Art form, Kintsugi points to valuing the history of something that has been broken and is made whole again in a new identity more beautyful. The new, reformed whole contains both the remembrance of that which was before and also what is now.
