Beth and John’s romantic journey has come to an end.
Hulu has cancelled the Amy Schumer-led dramedy Life & Beth after two seasons, TVLine has learned. The show’s sophomore finale, which dropped on Feb. 16 with the rest of Season 2, now serves as its series finale.
Life & Beth premiered on the streamer in March 2022 and starred Schumer as Beth, a woman who realized she was unhappy with her life after her mother unexpectedly died. In Season 2, Beth and her romantic partner John (played by Michael Cera) got married and welcomed a baby boy — but Beth’s sister, Ann (Susannah Flood), took off from the hospital just as Beth was going in for her C-section in the finale, despite agreeing to work through her agoraphobia in order to be there for the birth of Beth’s child.
When asked about a potential third season, Schumer told TVLine in February that she and Cera “both really would love to do it,” but she didn’t yet have a plan in mind for where Season 3 might take their characters.
“I think that’s something nice about the show,” she said. “We really want it to feel organic. So any sort of ideas that we might have, we’re very down to let them go for something that feels better [in the future].”
Life & Beth‘s ensemble also included Laura Benanti, Michael Rapaport, Yamaneika Saunders, Sas Goldberg, Violet Young, Arielle Siegel and Kevin Kane. (On the bright side for Kane, he was promoted this week to series regular on NBC’s Law & Order: SVU, where he plays Det. Terry Bruno.)

Boo
2 seasons and out, like almost every streaming series. Why even watch when they are just going to end everything so quickly.
If a streaming series has a big name attached, this is a very real possibility. By big name, I mean anyone that has starred in a well recieved or well known TV show or movie in the last 5ish years, provided they have steadily worked outside of that.
.
Here, it is Amy Schumer and a bunch of well known names.
.
When the show was initially picked up, it was “shadow” picked up for 2 seasons. They announced the first season pickup, without announcing that the show was definitely picked up for 2 seasons at the get go. This allows them to announce, 3-5 weeks into the season (for weekly releases) or by the next Friday after the show’s binge drop. It gives the appearance of success, and it encourages anyone on the fence about the show to watch, because, hey, there’s going to be more shows.
.
It might be clear early on that the show will die after 2 seasons. Heck, they’d probably rather kill it after 1, but they’ve basically paid for 2 seasons (hefty penalty for not doing S2), so they might as well go ahead on S2.
.
But if you are into S2 on any show that isn’t a huge watercooler hit, or serious awards bait, then prepare as though it won’t last past S2.
Oh no, were will Amy Schumer go to be overpaid and unfunny now?
What a shame. It was such a good show.
Yes, I’m bummed. I’m halfway through the second season. I started watching it out of curiosity and have found it smart, raunchy, unpredictable.
I loved this show! I’m so disappointed it’s not continuing.
From UK just watched end season 2, so disappointed won’t be a 3rd season Why? Ratings or just execs going nah? Because they can
