Koby Brea Hauls in SEC Player of the Week Accolades

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky guard Koby Brea was named the Southeastern Conference’s Co-Player of the Week on Monday following a career performance in UK’s upset of No. 6 Florida to begin league play. Brea scored a career-high 23 points and drained a career-best seven 3s as the Wildcats outlasted the Gators in a 106-100 win for their third victory over an Associated Press Top 10 opponent this season.

Brea’s seven 3s were the second-most ever by a UK player against Florida in the series’ history, and the second most against a top 10 opponent in program history. The Washington Heights, New York, native has drained at least one from long range in every game this season and has multiple 3s in 12 of 14 contests. He leads the country shooting 52.3% from distance.

UK is the only program in the nation with three wins over top 10 teams this season, and the Cats improved to a perfect 5-0 when the Florida-Kentucky matchup features both teams ranked inside of the top 10. Kentucky’s 106 points were the second-most scored against Florida in the series’ history, and the most since 1970.

In two games last week, Brea averaged a team-high 18.0 points per game and shot 60% from the field.

This week’s award is the third SEC weekly honor for Kentucky. Andrew Carr captured the honor following UK’s come-from-behind win over Duke, while Lamont Butler was tabbed the player of the week after scoring 33 points in the win over Louisville.

Kentucky returns to action on the road at Georgia on Tuesday. Tip time is set for 7 p.m. and the game will air on SEC Network.
