Kent Navalesi
I am a historian of religion in Late Antiquity whose research examines the use of religious narrative literature in the pastoral care of the laity. Thus far, my main focus has been the prose hagiographical works of Venantius Fortunatus (c.530-600/609), one of the most important literary figures of the period. My current book project, "The Prose Lives of Venantius Fortunatus: Hagiography and the Laity in Sixth-Century Gaul," under contract with Amsterdam University Press, is scheduled for publication in mid-2023.
I have 10 years experience teaching a variety of college history courses, listed in my "Courses" section. My pedagogy seeks to expand students' awareness of foreign historical cultures and to improve their reading and writing skills through active engagement with primary sources.
