In this paper, world wide web (WWW) collaborative model is developed, and architecture with the web enabled service system for effective integration of distributed process planning and scheduling is proposed to assists the geographically distributed enterprises located in the context of networked manufacturing for effective coordination and collaboration. To validate the feasibility of the proposed approach, a case study has been presented and found that the proposed method and developed tool offers some benefits such as high interoperability, openness, cost-efficiency, and production scalability.

Thus, in this paper an analysis is carried out regarding the evolution of publications that have been put available over the last decade about collaborative decision making approaches, varying from approaches based on mathematical models up to the application of artificial intelligence and other kind of approaches. Moreover, a discussion about the relation between collaborative decision making, concurrent engineering and Industry 4.0 dimensions is also done.

There are critical success factors that permit to distinguish a good business on the Internet and this knowledge may allow reaching an important competitive advantage for business sustainability. As many disciplines are involved, when determining critical success factors, e-commerce requires an effective coordination and integration in a collaborative way. In e-commerce, as well as in any other ecosystem, the breaking down of some integrating elements may provoke a collapse on the whole system. The various stakeholders involved in a given business should, therefore, be involved and work together to achieve a high quality product that fully satisfies the end customer's needs and wishes. To meet the above requirement, this paper proposes a multi-perspective critical success factors (MPCSF) model for online shopping.

It is dedicated to companies performing machining services on a variety of materials on a small scale. The method is to help balance the production capacity on the basis of a defined labor intensity structure taking into account the share of set-up times and the level of defectiveness. The designed numerical algorithms along with the user interface make it possible to characterize machine tools and orders in the production system and compare the production capabilities of the system with the demand. The paper presents the algorithm working pattern, mathematical formulae used and a sample source code. An example of a computer application allowing to estimate the production capacity for sample orders (cast iron castings) and process routes in a selected cast iron production plant are also presented.

This paper examines the impact of the Simulated Annealing (SA) and Discrete Artificial Bee Colony (DABC) parameters in the TSP. One special consideration of this paper is how the Neighborhood Structure (NS) interact with the other parameters and impacts the performance of the meta-heuristics. NS performance has been the topic of much research, with NS proposed for the best-known problems, which seem to imply that the NS influences the performance of meta-heuristics, more that other parameters. Moreover, a comparative analysis of distinct meta-heuristics is carried out to demonstrate a non-proportional increase in the performance of the NS.

Pure Titanium and its alloys are the most suitable metallic materials for biomedical applications. In health care, they are used for implant devices like knee and hip implants, fixing materials for bones like nails and screws, and in the oral and maxillofacial surgery. Properties like good biocompatibility, high corrosion resistance, and high fracture strength make titanium parts the perfect solution for bio-implants. The more frequent use of the titanium necessitates an economical machining process. Conventional processes like milling, grinding or drilling have their limits because of the material’s mechanical properties which cause high tool wear. WEDM proves to be an alternative especially for manufacturing complex parts as there is no actual contact with tool and the work piece. Within this study, the capabilities of Wire-EDM for the manufacturing of clean surfaces with di...

Global competition for customers that demand customized products with shorter due dates and the advancement in information technologies, marked the introduction of the Extended Enterprise. In these EMEs (Extended Manufacturing Environments), lean, virtual, networked and distributed enterprises, form MO (MetaOrganizations), which collaborate to respond to the dynamic marketplace. MO members share resources, customers and information. In this paper we present a hybrid framework based on a DKBS (Distributed Knowledge Base System), which includes information about scheduling methods for collaborative enterprises sharing their problems. A core component of this system includes an inference engine as well as two indexes, to help in the classification of the usefulness of the information about the problems and solving methods. A more structured approach for expanding the MO concept is presented, with the HO (Hype...

When one or more facility in the supply chain is disrupted, its impact propagates and reduce the performance of the supply chain. This research paper takes into consideration the probability of a disruption scenario to design a robust network for a supply chain. A stochastic mathematical formulation has been presented as a mixed-integer linear programming model for maximizing the concerned profit. For measuring the supply chain’s robustness, the final quantity delivered after risk propagation in the disruption scenario as a robustness index (RI) is utilized. A numerical simulation is conducted to calculate the robustness index at different linking intensity and node threshold. The robustness index is compared under different disruption scenarios to obtain the optimal combination concerning linking intensity and node threshold.

Companies tend to implement management systems with the purpose of achieving greater competitiveness and, consequently, greater sustainability in their sector. The selection of the appropriate production management system is a serious problem for the companies. The main objective of this study is to support companies in the correct choice of a Decision Support System. The method used to achieve the proposed objective consists on formulating a model for comparing functionalities and specifications, where selection of criteria were also defined and analyzed. Based on a large Company scenario, the model is applied to three production execution systems: SAP PP (Systems Applications and Products - ...

Job shop schedules analysis in the context of industry 4.0

The next level of evolution will comprehend the wide spread inclusion of machines sensors and big data analytics. Enterprise Resource Planning and Manufacturing Execution Systems will be the information management tools for the revolution. Different forms of optimization will be in the brink of development to answer this revolution needs. In this paper is proposed a model for solving a classical job shop scheduling problem, which is NP-hard in the strong sense. For accomplishing this, a test problem is run to evaluate the difference between the performance of Shifting Bottleneck Heuristic (SBH) and some dispatching rules, such as First Come First Served (FCFS), Earliest due Date (EDD), and Shortest Processing Time (SPT). The evaluation criteria used were the makespan (Cmax) and the total weighted tardiness (TWT). The results did show that the SBH outperforms the dispatching rules, although the computation time turns out to...
