Zoheir TIR was born in El Oued, Algeria, on 1983. He received the degree of Electrotechnical Engineer in 2007 from the University of Batna, the M.Sc. degree in Electrotechnical in 2010 from the University of Setif and the D. Sc. degree in control of electrical machines from University of Batna in 2014. In 2011 he was recruited as Assistant Professor in Department of Sciences and Technology in University of El Oued.
He’s member of the LEVRES research laboratory. His research project involves the modeling, simulation, electric machines and drives, advanced control methods and integration of renewable energy sources.

Sensorless control of Switched Reluctance Machine

The Switched Reluctance Machine is one of the most promising electrical machine in variable speed... more The Switched Reluctance Machine is one of the most promising electrical machine in variable speed applications because of its intrinsic robustness and its fault tolerant capability. However, the performances of the machine are deteriorated when a defect affects the position sensor. This paper describes a sensorless control for the switched reluctance machine: two methods based on the characteristics of the machine are proposed to eliminate the requirement of the position sensor. The first one utilizes the phase inductance characteristic to determine the rotor position by injecting a test signal while the phase winding is non-energized. The second one utilizes the flux characteristic to estimate the position by measuring the phase voltage and current. Both methods are evaluated through intensive simulation and the results show their good performance respectively in low speed and high speed region. The flux-based method, implemented in a FPGA, has been evaluated on a test bed. The experimental results confirm the simulation ones with an average position estimation error of around 2° mechanical in the range between 1/3 and the rated speed.

To further improve the dynamic speed control performance of an induction motor (IM) using a contr... more To further improve the dynamic speed control performance of an induction motor (IM) using a controller based on sliding mode control (SMC) strategy, the switching table for direct torque control (DTC) is realized using a feed forward artificial neural network (ANN). The proposed feed-forward ANN consists of three layers: input, hidden and output layer. The input layer consists of three neurons (sector of flux vector, electromagnetic torque error and stator flux error), the hidden layer consists of a number of neurons that can be determined by experiment to obtain good results. The output layer consists of three neurons (three signals of the converter Sa, Sb and Sc). Simulation results under MATLAB environment are presented and compared with classical DTC using an Integral-proportional (IP) controller to verify the proposed approach.

Brushless Doubly Fed Induction Generators (BDFIGs) promise significant advantages for wind energy... more Brushless Doubly Fed Induction Generators (BDFIGs) promise significant advantages for wind energy systems (WESs) due to their lower costs, complexity and higher reliability as compared with doubly fed induction generators (DFIGs). This thesis presents a new control scheme to control a BDFIG using back-to-back PWM. The proposed control scheme is named a New PID (NPID) controller. The purpose of BDFIG control is to achieve a similar dynamic performance to the DFIG, exploiting the well-known stator field orientation control (FOC). The performance of NPID controller has been investigated and compared with conventional controllers. The whole system is simulated using MATLAB software and results are provided in order to demonstrate the effectiveness and the robustness of the NPID controller.

Le deuxième chapitre, donnera an après en général sur la centrale électrique de HMO en Algérie. Le troisième chapitre, présentera la procédure du dimensionnement de l'alternateur de la centrale de HMO, et l'analyse des résultats de l'alternateur conçu, suivi d'une interprétation des caractéristiques obtenues, et on clôturera ce chapitre par une étude comparative de la machine conçue et celui de la centrale de Sonelgaz HMO en Algerie.

The proposed control scheme is a New Self-Tuning Fuzzy Proportional-Derivative Controller (NSTFPDC). The goal of BDFIG control is to achieve a similar dynamic performance to the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG), exploiting the well-known induction machine vector control philosophy. The performance of NSTFPDC controller has been investigated and compared with the two controllers, called Proportional–Integral (PI) and PD-like Fuzzy Logic controller (PD-like FLC) based BDFIG. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and the robustness of the NSTFPDC controller.

Le troisième chapitre, présentera la procédure du dimensionnement de l'alternateur de la centrale de HMO, et l'analyse des résultats de l'alternateur conçu, suivi d'une interprétation des caractéristiques obtenues, et on clôturera ce chapitre par une étude comparative de la machine conçue et celui de la centrale de Sonelgaz HMO en Algerie.

This paper presents a new control scheme to control a brushless doubly fed induction generator (B... more This paper presents a new control scheme to control a brushless doubly fed induction generator (BDFIG) using back-to-back PWM converters for wind power generation. The proposed control scheme is a New Self-Tuning Fuzzy Proportional-Derivative Controller (NSTFPDC). The goal of BDFIG control is to achieve a similar dynamic performance to the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG), exploiting the well-known induction machine vector control philosophy. The performance of NSTFPDC controller has been investigated and compared with the two controllers, called Proportional–Integral (PI) and PD-like Fuzzy Logic controller (PD-like FLC) based BDFIG. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and the robustness of the NSTFPDC controller.
