This research uses the history method using primary sources from documents and oral interviews. The traditional food security institutions in the form of Village Barns could run well because of the support and independence of rural communities. It happened during the colonial period until the beginning of Indonesian independence. After the emergence of modern logistics institutions in the form of the Logistics Affairs Agency (Bulog) and KUD, which were the result of the policies of the New Order government, rural communities became independent. They depended on the government for fertilizers, medicines, seeds, and others. With the presence of these modern logistics institutions, community-based resilience institutions are increasingly marginalized. This economic environment created a financial gap between the indigenous people and the foreign ones. Hence, crime emerged as a result of the hole. This study analyzes the criminal pattern that occurred in Semarang from the colonial period to the post-independence revolution—collecting and analyzing data using the historical method by four stages, namely heuristic, critics, interpretation, and historiography. The sources were from contemporary newspapers. The results show that there is a different criminal pattern from the colonial era to post-independence. Crime in the colonial period was individual-based. The crime scenes were on roads and markets, and the targets were the rich people regardless of ethnicity and nationality. A historical analysis was conducted based on the documents and reports of transportation development, road construction, and urban planning in Semarang City, the capital city of Central Java, Indonesia. From a historical perspective, the transportation development and the land use change of Semarang City were determined by economic activities from the early period of colonialism, especially when this city was devoted as a port city in Java with massive coastal inhabitants. Along with this economic activity, ports and roads were built, accelerating the city’s development until the mid of 20th century. This article aims to analyze the changes in maritime networks in the classical period of Southeast Asia and their influence on the development of ports and political centers in this region. The research method used is the historical method by utilizing relevant secondary sources. The analysis results show that long before Christ, the Southeast Asian region had become an arena of maritime networks with India and was followed by China at the beginning of the century AD. The sea transportation network connecting India, China, and the Middle East has influenced the growth of ports in Southeast Asia, which has implications for economic development and political power in the classical kingdoms. It was formed in 1757 through Salatiga Agreement, as product of Jawa War succession. At the beginning Praja Mangkunagaran was a district of Kasunanan, then it raised into a small empire. Government modernization was done since Mangkunagara IV by establishing some new institution. Increasingly sophisticated modernization carried out in the early twentieth century during the reign of Mangkunagara VI and Mangkunagara VII. Modernization of gover-nance is heavily influenced by the Dutch colonial governance combined with Javanese culture. One of the major problems is related to the minority ethnicity and its position towards the majority. One of the ethnicities which receives special attention from the government is Chinese. This article is trying to analyse the history of Indonesia Government Policy from Indonesian Independence to Reformasi. The results show that from Indonesian Independence to The New Order era, discrimination politics to Chinese in Indonesia occurs. Chinese is trying to create their image being Indonesian by imitating the majority’s cultural identity or practicing assimilation based on the location where they live. After Reformasi in 1998, the state politics changed by respecting cultures or multicultural society. This study aims to portrait social studies education in growing habitus tolerance. The research question is 1) what is acculturation of culture in Minaret of Kudus? and 2) how student tolerance can grow through social studies learning based on value of cultural acculturation in Minaret of Kudus. This research method is qualitative with case study design. This study involved 4 social studies teachers and 30 students. Findings of this study indicate that cultural acculturation in Minaret of Kudus building is very relevant to be taught in social studies learning, besides that Kudus Minaret has the potential to foster student tolerance habitus because the historical background of Kudus Minaret comes from a combination of Islamic-Javanese-Hindu culture. Implication of this study is social studies learning must be more contributive in responding to social problems in society.

This study compares the development of plantation production systems and their impacts on the pea... more This study compares the development of plantation production systems and their impacts on the peasant economy in two different regions of Java Island, Mangkunegaran principality and Javanese frontier region of Jember. These regions demonstrated an interesting case to examine because of the existing differences among them, not only in the context of the plantation production systems operated, but also in the context of comparative perspective on western and indigenous plantation enterprises. Drawing upon primary and secondary historical sources, the article seeks to elaborate the development of plantations in Mangkunegaran and Jember regions in meeting the requirements of land and labor, and to examine their impacts on the food crops production. It is argued that the impact of the plantation production systems on the peasant economy was not homogenous across the regions. Their impact either good or bad would depend on the context in which they operated, the type of commodity developed, and the nature of capitalisms set in place.
