The back-to-back celebrations for World Environment Day and World Oceans Day this month give USAID another opportunity to highlight our work combating plastics pollution. USAID’s ocean plastics programs, including the Save Our Seas Initiative, have prevented the equivalent of 6.5 billion plastic bottles from leaking into the environment. Our work with governments, communities, and the private sector is building policies and practices that help strengthen the three Rs—reduce, reuse, recycle—on a global scale for greater impact.

Collaborating with USAID
USAID released an update on our progress toward putting local partners at the center of our work. The new Localization Progress Report shows our highest percentage of direct local funding in at least a decade, and a 38% increase from last year.
