The sprint is on. USAID and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies have announced a Global Sprint of Action on Extreme Heat to raise awareness around the issue, culminating on June 2 with Heat Action Day. From now until then, we’re calling on governments, philanthropy, civil society, and youth to take actions that help prepare communities for extreme heat and to increase resilience to the impacts that cannot be avoided. Urgent action is needed. Last year was the hottest on record. And climate experts predict extreme heat events will continue to increase in frequency, resulting in more lives lost and an increased risk of droughts and wildfires.
