WELCOME TO THOMPSON-BOLING ARENA AT FOOD CITY CENTER!


Located on the University of Tennessee campus in Knoxville, Tennessee, Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center is home to the University of Tennessee's Men's and Women's Basketball and Volleyball programs.  Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center is the third largest on-campus basketball arena in the country and is one of the nation's biggest and brightest stages for college basketball.  Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center also hosts a variety of concerts, special events, commencement ceremonies, and other community activities each year.  We hope to see you at one of our events soon!
 

Know Before You Go

THOMPSON-BOLING ARENA AT FOOD CITY CENTER BUILDING POLICIES

Clear Bag Policy:

  • Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center operates with a clear bag policy and stadium security regulations limit patrons to one clear plastic bag no larger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches or a one-gallon, clear, resealable plastic storage bag per person.
  • Fans will also be allowed a small clutch purse not to exceed 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches. Wallets must also conform to this size requirement.
  • No other bags will be allowed inside. All items, including clear bags and clutch purses, are subject to search at the gates. No items can be left or stored at the gates.
  • Medically necessary items must be searched. Diaper bags are not a medically necessary item. All diaper bag supplies should be carried in a clear bag.

 

Metal Detectors:

  • Walk-through metal detectors are in place and operational at all arena entrances for all events. Patrons are encouraged to bring only necessary items with them in order to ensure a smooth and timely entry. Please allow additional time for entry. 
  • The following items must be removed and placed in the bin prior to walking through the metal detectors: cellphone, camera, and other large metal objects.
  • The following items may remain on-person or in pockets: watch, jewelry, wallet, belt, jacket, shoes, and coins.

 

Alcohol Guidelines:

  • Beer will be sold throughout Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center at concession stands and kiosks.
  • Regardless of age, everyone will be required to produce a valid photo ID each time alcohol is purchased.
    • Valid photo IDs include: valid driver’s license, military ID card, passport, or government-issued photo ID card.
    • Individuals consuming alcohol must be able to present a valid photo ID at all times; patrons may be asked to show their ID away from the point of sale.
    • You don’t just need to be at least 21 years old – you need to be able to prove it.
  • A maximum of 2 alcoholic beverages may be sold per transaction.
  • All alcoholic beverages will be poured into a clear cup.
  • Alcohol Sales will be cut off at the following times:
    • Concerts and Special Events: Service concludes no later than 30 minutes prior to the end of the show
    • Men’s Basketball: Service concludes at the 12-minute mark of the 2nd half
    • Women’s Basketball: Service concludes at the end of the 3rd quarter
    • Other Sports: Service will conclude at a designated time no later than when 75% of the event’s regulation length is scheduled to be completed.
  • Individuals will be ejected from the Arena and are subject to prosecution if they pass off beer to a minor, attempt to use a fake ID, or if they are intoxicated.

 

Smoking & Vaping Policy:

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville is a smoke-free campus.  Smoking is prohibited in the Arena and on all University Property. This includes inhaling, exhaling, burning, or carrying any lighted cigar, cigarette (including an electronic cigarette or similar device), pipe, or other lighted tobacco product, in any manner or in any form by any guest or employee.  This prohibition includes smoking in private vehicles when parked or operated on University Property.  There are no designated smoking or vaping areas at Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center.

 

Re-Entry Policy:

The Arena has a no re-entry policy.

 

Cameras and Audio/Video Equipment:

Video Equipment is prohibited for all Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center Events.  Non-professional cameras are permitted for athletic events and for most graduation ceremonies.  Camera polices vary on an event-by-event basis for concerts.  Flash photography is not permitted.

 

First Aid:

If a guest requires first aid there are two First Aid Rooms located on the concourse behind Sections 115 and 127. 

 

Lost and Found:

If you attended a Tennessee Athletics event and lost an item, please contact the Event Management office at 865-974-1205.  If you attended a concert or special event and lost an item, please contact the Arena Management office at 865-974-0953.

 

Items NOT Permitted in the Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center:

  • no aerosol cans 
  • no alcoholic beverages 
  • no illegal drugs 
  • no animals (except certified service dogs for disabled) 
  • no beach balls or other inflatables
  • no bota bags 
  • no wine skins 
  • no bullhorns 
  • no noise makers 
  • no cameras* 
  • no recording devices* 
  • no confetti 
  • no fireworks 
  • no firearms 
  • no weapons 
  • no backpacks   
  • no glass bottles 
  • no aluminum cans 
  • no coolers 
  • no thermos containers 
  • no laser pointers 
  • no outside food or beverages (unless needed for medical purposes - must be checked at Gate D)
  • no skateboards 
  • no roller blades 
  • no sticks or clubs 
  • no stools 
  • no folding chairs 
  • no water bottles/mugs 
  • no baby strollers or carriers 
  • no laptop computers 
  • no open umbrellas
  • no knives or bladed devices of any length - this includes pocket knives

* Camera/Recording Device policy varies per event. Please contact us for more information at 865-974-0953.

Please note: any item such as knives or bladed devices will be confiscated.  We will not hold these items to be picked up at a later time - they will be discarded.

PARKING

Concert & Special Event Parking is now $20.00 (Cards only, no cash).  Acceptable forms of payment: MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express.

DIRECTIONS

From McGhee Tyson Airport: 

  • Turn north on U.S. Highway 129 leaving airport. 
  • After crossing the Tennessee River bridge just outside of Knoxville, exit onto Neyland Drive (Tennessee Highway 153). 
  • Turn left (south) at the bottom of the exit ramp and follow road until Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center is visible. 
  • Turn left onto Lake Loudoun Boulevard. Turn right at stoplight. 
  • Follow Phillip Fulmer Way to parking garage.

 

From I-40 east (from Nashville) and I-75 north (from Chattanooga): 

  • Follow I-40 and I-75 to I-40/I-75 junction in west Knoxville. 
  • Continue on I-40 east to U.S. Highway 129 south. 
  • Follow 129 south to the exit for Neyland Drive (Tennessee Highway 153). 
  • Turn left (south) at the bottom of the exit ramp and follow the road until Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center is visible. 
  • Turn left onto Lake Loudoun Boulevard. 
  • Turn right at stoplight. 
  • Follow Phillip Fulmer Way to parking garage.

 

From I-40 west (from Tri-Cities and Asheville, NC): 

  • Follow I-40 west to the James White Parkway exit. 
  • Follow Parkway to Neyland Drive (Tennessee Highway 153) until Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center is visible. 
  • Turn right onto Lake Loudoun Boulevard. Turn right at stoplight. 
  • Follow Phillip Fulmer Way to parking garage.

 

From I-75 south (from Lexington, KY): 

  • Follow I-75 south to I-275 south just past Merchants Road. 
  • Follow I-275 to I-40 east. 
  • Exit I-40 east onto James White Parkway and follow Parkway to Neyland Drive (Tennessee Highway 153) until Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center is visible. 
  • Turn right onto Lake Loudoun Boulevard. 
  • Turn right at stoplight. 
  • Follow Phillip Fulmer Way to parking garage.

 

Please note: Provide extra drive time to the arena. It is suggested to arrive at least 30 to 45 minutes prior to event start time. Traffic can be very congested for some events and extra time may be needed to get into parking areas.

Reminder: The ticket office for Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center is on the street level off of Phillip Fulmer Way; main entrance gates are at the top of the concrete pedestrian ramps on the east and west side of the building.

ADA INFORMATION

Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center is committed to making events accessible to all guests, and we offer a number of services in order to fulfill this commitment.  Our staff will be happy to assist you with ushering, easy-access seating, emergency medical assistance/first aid, and a variety of additional services.  For assistance at any time, please call us at 865-974-0953, or visit our Customer Service window during events located on the main concourse inside of the Food City Center at Gate E.  Please notify us as early as possible with any accessibility requests so that we may prepare for your arrival.

SERVICES FOR GUESTS WITH DISABILITIES

Accessible Restrooms:

Accessible Restrooms are located throughout Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center.  Restrooms are accessible in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.  There are also Accessible Family Restrooms located throughout the Arena.

 

Accessible Seating:

Accessible seating is located throughout the facility in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.  Accessible seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis when ordering tickets.

 

Animals:

Animals are not permitted in the Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center.  Exceptions include service animals compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

 

Assisted Listening Devices:

Assisted Listening Devices are available upon request from the Arena Management Office.  A Photo ID is required as collateral for using the assisted listening device.  The ID will be exchanged back for the device upon return.

 

Medical Bag Check:

Medical Bag Check for all event is located at the Gate D entrance on the east end of the building.

 

Parking:

Parking for those with disabilities is available in each of the parking lots surrounding Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center.  The spaces are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Sign Language Interpreters:

Sign Language interpreters are available upon request.  Interpreters must be requested at least two weeks prior to the event.  To request a sign language interpreter, please call the Arena Management Office at 865-974-0953.

GUEST SERVICES

Door Times:

Doors to Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center open 1 hour and 30 minutes prior to game time for Men's Basketball and 1 hour prior to game time for Women's Basketball and Volleyball.  Doors for Concerts & Special Events vary per event.  Please check the event listing for door times.  Guests are encouraged to arrive early for easy access to seats and services.

Automated Teller Machines:

There are three bank automated teller machines (ATM) located inside Food City Center for your convenience. They are located on the concourse behind Section 100, Section 110 and Section 117.

 

Restrooms:

The Food City Center features an equal number of men's and women's restrooms which are located in four locations throughout the concourse.

 

First Aid:

First Aid Centers are located on the concourse behind Sections 115 and 127. 

 

Paging:

The paging of guests in Food City Center is not permitted.

 

Re-Entry:

Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center has a no re-entry policy.  There are NO passes out.

Concessions:

There are a variety of permanent concession stands located in the Food City Center, with additional portable locations set up during selected events.  The Concession Menu offers an extensive variety of items at most events.  The menu includes: Papa John’s Pizza, Bavarian Pretzels, Hot Dogs (All Beef and Smokey Cheddar), Hamburgers, Chicken Strips, Minute Maid Lemonade and Italian Ice, Premium Ice Cream, Nachos, Popcorn, Candy, Cotton Candy, Petro’s Chili and Chips, Moe’s, Great American Cookie, and Calhoun’s BBQ.  We proudly serve Coca-Cola products and Dasani Water.
