For K-12 teachers licensed in areas other than World Language, this graduate certificate can be used towards earning an additional endorsement in World Languages Education. For K-12 teachers licensed in World Languages Education at the undergraduate level, non-licensed professionals who work in informal education settings, and others who engage in instructional opportunities with students who are studying world languages, this graduate certificate provides advanced coursework specifically designed to enhance capacities for designing equity-focused instruction in world languages. Proficiency in French, German, Latin, Russian, or Spanish is required, as well as an undergraduate major or 24 credit hours in any of those languages.

Students in the World Languages (Pre K-12) Graduate Certificate program complete the following courses:

WLEL 550: Second Language Assessment & Standards-Based Instruction

Will focus on how to develop, use, score, and interpret a variety of second language assessments, give constructive feedback to students, and use the results of the assessments to inform standards-based language instruction.

WLEL 455: Teaching of World Languages

ACTFL standards-based instructional methods, resources, integrated technologies, second language theories, research and evaluation for world languages. Required for licensure in World Languages.

WLEL 445: Teaching World Languages: Grades PreK-5

ACTFL standards-based pedagogy, curricula, research, and instructional resources focused on the Pre K-5 WL classroom.

WLEL 475: Grammar for ESL Teachers

Pedagogical approaches, second language acquisition research and resources for teaching English grammar to English language learners. Required for Pre K-12 ESL licensure.
