  • I. The Crusading Movement

    One of defining features of central and late Middle Ages.

    II. Sources

    Many - chronicles, cemoirs, papal Documents, secular  documents. We are in to a new world compared to the earlier periods.

    III. The Big Questions

    What is a Crusade?

    "Holy War" is an easy answer, but is hard to define. In a militarized and religious society "Holy War" might seem natural, but the crusades were in fact a lot more complicated than this.

    In this course we will examine what the Crusades were, and what there impact was.
