Conquistadors brought
foreign diseases, whips, swords and vicious dogs to America; they took women, food and slaves as they went. America withstood the onslaught and became the only place in the New World that Spain could not possess.
Spain reacted by blaming our Natives for their own defeat, then conceived a prejudice against them which others acquired. Our image of the Devil, a "Red Man with a Spear," was born when DeSoto died in America. DeSoto devastated Native America: his people crippled the survivors with an enduring prejudice.
