January 24, 2007 - DVD sales have been slowing down lately. Some say it's because of unnecessary next-gen format wars. Others suggest digital downloads are the culprit. Even crazier people think it might be because there haven't been too many great movies made recently. They're all wrong according to SeeView Promotions, a company that points its finger precisely at the lack of 3D-screen caps on DVD boxes.

According to Rick Andrade, SeeView creator and president, "Current DVD cases just don't have enough information to help consumers make the best choice. Now they have the chance to preview a movie on 12 3-D slides built right into the bottom of every SeeView DVD case.

The fact that consumers might be confused by 3D images on the box when the actual movie is lame 2D doesn't seem to be a problem according to SeeView, which describes the 3D pics and the necessity of bringing a pair of "collectable" 3D-glasses to the store as "truly a win-win for retailers and consumers."

No publishers have announced plans to begin using the SeeView packaging just yet, but you never know. We can, however, think of one type of media that really would become more appealing if sampled in 3D before purchase, if you know what we mean and we think you do. The content of which we speak, and SeeView, are both produced in the Los Angeles vicinity, so there may well be hope. We can hardly wait.
