News – When the Army Corps of Engineers solicited bids for drainage pumps for New Orleans, it copied the specifications--typos and all--from the catalog of the manufacturer that ultimately won the $32 million contract. The pumps subsequently proved to be defective.

Politics – Sen. Tim Johnson has returned to his residence outside Washington, more than four months after he suffered a brain hemorrhage, his office said Monday. Johnson, 60, is up for re-election in 2008. He has not said whether he will run, but several of his Senate colleagues have been helping him raise money for the election.
