House OKs ban on genetic discrimination

Politics – Genetic information no longer could be used to deny someone health insurance or job opportunities under legislation passed by the House on Wednesday. "If your grandmother had breast cancer, you shouldn't be denied a job or a promotion," said Rep. Robert Andrews, D-NJ, before the 420-3 vote on the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act.

President Signs Animal Fighting Bill Into Law

Do No Evil – Today Bush signed the Animal Fighting Prohibition Enforcement Act into law which takes effect immediately. It provides felony penalties for interstate commerce, import and export related to animal fighting activities, including cockfighting. Each violation of the law may bring up to 3 years in jail and up to a $250,000 fine for perpetrators.
