Armed police raid home after mistaking Lara Croft dummy for gunman
When police spotted a gun-wielding suspect lurking in the shadows of a suburban front room, their response was swift. Armed officers burst into the house, shouted at the owner to lie on the floor, and ordered him to surrender his weapon.
But efficiency turned to embarrassment when the "gunman" turned out to be a life-sized model of the video game character Lara Croft, complete with trademark outsized pistols.
Computer shop owner David Williams, 42, had taken the dummy home to put it up for sale on the auction site eBay. As the source of the confusion dawned on all concerned, it might have been the moment for an apology from the police. Instead, however, Mr Williams was taken to the cells and held for more than 13 hours before being released.
He is now on bail for a suspected firearms offence, and Lara Croft remains impounded as evidence.

Long ago on Draenor, the Temple of Karabor was the center of draenei worship. But the devout priests who prayed there are long dead, slaughtered by marauding, demonically corrupted orcs. In the massacre's aftermath the warlocks of the Shadow Council seized the structure and bestowed upon it a new name: the Black Temple.
Check out this new trailer for Team Fortress 2 that features the Heavy Weapons Guy. "I am heavy weapons guy, this is my weapon. She weighs 150 kilograms and fires $200 custom tooled cartridges at 10,000 rounds per minute. It costs 400,000 dollars to fire this weapon for 12 seconds..." This trailer runs a little over a minute and is available in high resolution only.
Let's see what you guys thought about upgrading to Vista.
Do you plan on upgrading to Windows Vista any time soon? (890 total votes)
What do you mean upgrade? I'm fine with what I have. 348 (39%)
I’ll upgrade once they've worked out the kinks. 284 (32%)
Already have. 146 (16%)
Just waiting for the games. 112 (13%)
Here's the buzz on the forums. Thank you to everyone who posted your thoughts!
"Already have, don't do it." - Cloudw4lker
"I would be happy to get Vista if I were buying a new PC, but for now I cannot justify to upgrade for nothing new." - Rob
"Some games seem to run better on Vista, however, because of the Vista 64bit unsigned driver issues and Vista 32bit old games/programs compatibility issues, I would suggest you wait at least a year or two. Or if you need the latest and greatest thing, I suggest you do a dual-boot setup." - Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander
"I am quite content with my Windows 2000 Pro setups! I don't need the "newer is better" headaches. Windows 2000 and XP still have a decent service life left.. until 2011.. unless MS deems we should support their "lost cause" and orphanizes the versions!
I still use some older 16-bit programming, which W2K runs very well. XP won't run any programming of 16-bit nature very well.
If I did feel the need to upgrade, I would also wait a year or more, to see what Gremlins were found in the original issue.. and what corrections were made." - Karlsweldt
"Already have. Although it wasn't an upgrade but a clean pre-install on a laptop." - Kalbrecht
"Why bother? What's wrong with XP? I'm staying right here thank you." - Jaffa
V-Tech Rampage Creator Demands Payment to Remove Game
In the history of video games, perhaps in the history of the Internet, this is something never seen before: an audience held hostage.
Ryan Lambourn, the Australian man who created the highly offensive V-Tech Rampage, has posted a message on his GooGumProduce website demanding payment to take the game offline:
ATTENTION ANGRY PEOPLE:
I will take this game down from newgrounds if the donation amount reaches $1000 US, i’ll take it down from here if it reaches $2000 US, and i will apologize if it reaches $3000 US.
Newgrounds, of course, could take the game offline without regard to Lambourn’s wishes. It remains to be seen whether the site will do so.
It’s unclear whether Lambourn’s Dr. Evil-style demand is for real or just part of an elaborate prank. Either way, the clock is now running on Ryan Lambourn’s 15 minutes of fame.
The medieval Europe sim returns with even more possibilities. In an age rife with intrigues and battles, rise through the ranks of society from a mere crafter to the city's magistrate. Or choose the secret path of thievery to become a feared robber baron -- it's your decision.
Covering the rise to power of the Hakha-manishiya Dynasty in Ancient Persia, this mod aspires to present a setting that breathes a more genuinely Eastern quality than the original, that largely focuses on Rome.

This upgrade adds additional resolution support, a couple of gameplay enhancements, and a few other changes.
Funcom unveils The Secret World MMO for Xbox 360, PC
Durham, USA – May 11th, 2007 – From Funcom, the creators of ‘Age of Conan’, ‘Anarchy Online’, ‘The Longest Journey’ and 'Dreamfall' comes a brave new massively multiplayer online role–playing game for the PC and Xbox 360. Taking place on our earth, in our times, ‘The Secret World’ (TSW) is inspired by history and mythology, modern conspiracy theories and ancient mysteries.
For there really is a world within ours, a secret world, where magic exists, monsters roam and ancient forces are fighting for the dominance of earth. It is a world of legendary stories, ageless conflicts and powerful cabals. In this world, even modern cities hide secrets. In this world, players can take part in the greatest conspiracies of our age, and battle the forces of darkness across the world and throughout time.
“We started envisioning this contemporary online world more than ten years ago, and as the years passed the ideas grew and improved,“ said Ragnar Tørnquist, Producer and Director on ‘The Secret World’. “We always wanted a different kind of online world, something scary and contemporary, something deeper and closer to our reality. Our goal now is to create a detailed world where players feel empowered and part of something big, something mystical and epic.”
“We believe there are millions of gamers out there who want to explore something beyond traditional fantasy and sci-fi games,“ said Trond Arne Aas, CEO of Funcom. “'The Secret World' is just that – a fantastic new setting that will fuel the imagination of online gamers, and keep players busy for years. We have a golden opportunity to bring something fresh and exciting to the genre, and we firmly believe the game is an ideal extension of Funcom’s MMO portfolio.”
‘The Secret World’ has been in development since last summer and the game is in a playable state. It is produced at the Funcom studios in Oslo and Beijing. A release date is not being announced at this point, but players are already getting involved in the fast-growing community. Through a complex web-based mystery launched on May 6th, players are being led to a series of websites, including www.DarkDaysAreComing.com, where – after solving a puzzle – concept art from the game is being unveiled.
As a gamer you can become a member of the first wave community, and through pioneer forums you can discuss and explore the intriguing backstory. To access the forums and learn more about the mystery make sure you check out: www.darkdemonscrygaia.com
Another new movie trailer for Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising is now online, yet again showing off the Roman mythological MMORPG being crafted at Perpetual Entertainment. This high-res in-game clip demonstrates just over a minute and a half of melee combat footage.
This patch is meant ONLY for the DVD version of Theatre of War. This patch will update Theatre of War to the same level as the current download version (1.2.0.46). It will also fix the Mission Editor launching issue that some people may have.
Prairie Games has issued an updated playable demo for Minions of Mirth, calling this sample of their fantasy 3D single- and massively multiplayer role-playing game their "Free Edition". As before the Free Edition allows you to try out an unspecified portion of the game, and this upgrade applies a large number of gameplay tweaks, bug fixes and other changes.
We all know a lack of games during a consoles launch is nothing new. And we all know the PS3 is in the exact same boat as the Wii except for one minor detail. Developers are actually looking forward to producing titles for the Nintendo Wii. With big name developers like EA, Ubisoft, and Square Enix, plus publishers like Konami, Vivendi, Midway, Activision, SEGA, and Take-Two all jumping at the chance to work with Nintendo's latest console you can safely deduce that quality titles are not too far off. And let's not forget Nintendo's first party titles which are always worth the price of admission alone. Don't get me wrong there is only so much Wii Sports one man can play but it's knowing what the future holds that keeps me riding the 'No, it's the real deal' train.
Let's see what you guys thought about Wii's fad status.
Do you feel the Nintendo Wii is a fad? (463 total votes)
It will be if more games do not come out for it soon. 177 (38%)
Yes, it was new and exciting, but I am already over it. 157 (34%)
No, it is the real deal! 129 (28%)
Here's the buzz on the forums. Thank you to everyone who posted your thoughts!
"I really haven't heard of any great games since release. It's a lot of fun but you can only play singleplayer games for so long." - Cloudw4lker
"I used to have very high interest in the Wii, but now even if I did see one in a store, I would probably pass it up." - Rob
"Tough call. I'd lean towards - nope, not a fad. Even if the first year's worth of games aren't killer, the next generation will hopefully take advantage of the technology. It's the general cycle of console development - G1 doesn't do much, but following generations of games can push it much better." Kalbrecht
Little Khloe Leslie, 11, and her mother Leeanne, 28, of Inverbervie Scotland were shocked when one of the characters in Animal Crossing for the Nintendo DS called the pre-teen a 'f****** cow'. As children these days are taught the 'take a screenshot or it didn't happen' rule from an early age, they were lucky enough to capture the precious moment for UK's Metro news. From the picture snapped we can see the offensive text has to be user-input, seeing as the questionable text is in blue, but the question still remains, how on earth did it get there?
Let's speculate!
I think it's safe to say little Khloe Leslie is crying out for attention. She's probably projecting her negative self image on helpless virtual animals in order to cope with the pressures of being young and overweight in a society where all the virtual animals are perfect 10's. Sure her rebellious activities started off innocent enough; stealing baked goods while Tom Nook's back is turned then selling the cupcakes to Booker in order to pay off her home loans.
Unfortunately the next thing you know she's stealing Gracie's car and yelling "should of washed it yourself you f****** cow" out the window. Hey, it could have happened!
Most likely the Leslie's are unknowingly involved in an insidious plot to soil young minds set forth by Nintendo...or they could have just purchased a used copy. You be the judge!
