Science – A 50-ton bowhead whale caught off the Alaskan coast last month had a weapon fragment embedded in its neck that showed it survived a similar hunt - more than a century ago. Embedded deep under its blubber was a 3 1/2-inch arrow-shaped projectile that has given researchers insight into the whale's age, estimated between 115 and 130 years old.

Do No Evil – Iyad Abdel-Salim, 12, left school 6 months ago and has been working to boost the family income. His father was killed in Iraq's political violence. As the only boy in the family, and with 3 smaller sisters to look after, he was forced to go onto the streets and work. The UN Children's Agency estimates that about 11% of Iraqi children under 14 work.

Religion – According to tax documents obtained by The Times, the number of reported members spiraled down from more than 29,000 in 2000 to less than 1,700 in 2006, a loss of membership that caused the Muslim rights group's annual income from dues to drop from $732,765 in 2000, when yearly dues cost $25, to $58,750 last year, when the group charged $35.
Do No Evil – Around here all stores get a possessive "s"'s. "Wal-mart is Wal-mart's, Kroger is Kroger's, etc. I simply chocked it up to a colloquialism. But lately I have begun appreciating that possessive "s" and its sad commentary on the state of shopping in most modern rural communities.
