Stephen Crockett: Time for Republicans to Choose: Bush-Cheney or America

A BUZZFLASH GUEST CONTRIBUTION
by Stephen Crockett

The recent claim by Dick Cheney to have both executive privilege and not to be part of the executive branch of government seems to amount to a claim that Cheney is simply above the rule of law. It appears that both Bush and Cheney think they rule by divine right like the absolute monarchs of medieval Europe or the dictators of the old Soviet Bloc. Both need to be impeached. Until they are removed from office, the media, Congress, and the courts should be aggressively investigating, exposing, and opposing their abuses of power.

High Noon for Justice and the Rule of Law

High Noon for Justice and the Rule of Law

A BUZZFLASH EDITORIAL

It's the iconic American Western of one man taking a stand for justice and the rule of law. It's his wedding day to a beautiful, pacifist younger bride (Grace Kelly) -- and his last day as marshal in a frontier town. Gary Cooper (the laconic, lanky marshal) could leave right then to start a family, and set up a new comfortable life as a store owner.

Lucinda Marshall: Rethinking Patriotism

A BUZZFLASH GUEST CONTRIBUTION
by Lucinda Marshall

I received a number of responses from an essay I wrote several months ago questioning the appropriateness of military air shows as a form of community-sponsored family entertainment. The gist of most of the letters was that the military defends our freedom and without it, I could not write these words. Indeed, I was told that to criticize militarism is unpatriotic and how dare I impugn the honor and integrity of those who serve in the armed forces defending the American way of life.

Dave Lindorff: Bush's Incredible Shrinking 'Coalition'

A BUZZFLASH GUEST CONTRIBUTION
by Dave Lindorff

Bush's "Coalition of the Willing," that motley crew of cajoled and pressured mostly minor nations that provided token troops to send to Iraq along with the U.S. juggernaut during the 2003 invasion of Iraq, is looking decidedly smaller today.

BARBARA'S DAILY BUZZFLASH MINUTE

"...a recently retired CIA officer as saying the task-force teams "had full authority to whack - to go in and conduct ‘executive action,'" a phrase meaning assassination. In other words, President Bush not only had arrogated to himself the right to snatch people off the street and lock them up indefinitely without trial but also he had dispatched assassins around the world to eliminate alleged "bad guys." George W. Bush was no longer President of a Republic but Godfather of the world's most intimidating crime syndicate. But that was a reality that the U.S. news media could not afford to acknowledge in real time." Which leaves one wondering, were U.S. news journalists afraid of being "whacked"? The Supreme Court of the United States did no favors for America, when they appointed George Bush to the office of the presidency!!! In fact they aided and abetted the overthrow of democracy!

Cindy Sheehan: Zombie

A BUZZFLASH GUEST CONTRIBUTION

Another head hangs lowly,
Child is slowly taken.
And the violence caused such silence,
Who are we mistaken?

But you see, it's not me, it's not my family.
