Renée Zellweger is taking Sir Paul McCartney on a romantic weekend away.

The 38-year-old actress has booked a secluded luxury cottage in America's East Hamptons resort so she and the 65-year-old Beatles legend can get to know each other better.

A source said: "It's early days but Renée really thinks they could have something.

"The Hamptons seems to be a lucky place for them. So Renée is playing it safe by spending the weekend with him there.

"The cottage has a piano and guitars, so she might be serenaded with an impromptu performance."

Renée and Paul first met at a Tom Petty concert in New York last month where they were seen cosying up to one another.

For their second date the Oscar-winning actress and the beloved musician enjoyed a romantic dinner at The American Hotel restaurant in The Hamptons. The pair met up again at Jon Bon Jovi's East Hampton holiday home last week.

Paul is currently locked in a bitter divorce battle with Heather Mills - mother of his three-year-old daughter Beatrice - and he has recently been spotted with supermodel Elle Macpherson and former model Christie Brinkley.

But despite the amount of female attention Paul has been receiving of late, he and Renée are said to be smitten with each other.

The source added: "'Jerry Maguire' is one of his favourite films, and she is a huge Beatles fan. So they were off to a good start before they even met."

Lindsay Lohan was reunited with her estranged father yesterday (06.09.07).

The 'Mean Girls' actress had the emotional meeting with dad Michael at Utah's Cirque Lodge, where she is currently being treated for drink and drug addiction.

Lindsay's mother, Dina, confirmed: "Lindsay, myself and my son, Michael Jr., agreed that it would be good for her to have some closure with the situation with her dad. It's part of the healing process."

Lindsay had not seen her dad since March, after he was released from prison and Dina - who is divorced from Michael - is pleased father and daughter are trying to repair their damaged relationship.

Dina said: "I wanted it to happen for Lindsay. She needed to do this for herself. It's still her father, no matter how you slice it. It's still her dad, and God willing he'll get it."

When Michael arrived at the Utah facility an emotional Lindsay greeted him with a huge hug in the car park.

An onlooker said: "The moment Lindsay saw Michael, she started running and jumped into her father's arms. He hugged her back and swung her around. It was very emotional."

Michael later said: "I can't comment on my relationship with my daughter. But the reunion was amazing."

Lindsay, 21, entered the rehab centre following her arrest on July 24 after she crashed her car following a high-speed car chase in Santa Monica. She was in possession of cocaine when she was taken into custody.

It is the troubled actress' third stint in rehab. She previously stayed at the Wonderland and Promises facilities in Los Angeles.

At a Las Vegas press conference to announce plans to open his third 40/40 Club at the Palazzo hotel, the 37-year-old rapper - who has been dating the 26-year-old singer for over four years - confirmed they will tie the knotin the very near future.

Asked if they had set a date for the wedding, Jay-Z said: "One day soon - let's leave it at that."

The hip-hop mogul went on to hint he may even choose the Palazzo as the wedding venue, if the hotel's President Rob Goldstein buys Beyonc?n expensive ring.

He joked: "I don't know if the wedding will be here.

"It's kind of comfortable. If Rob throws in the ring, who knows?"

Jay also revealed he is considering setting up home in Las Vegas.

He said: "Vegas is like no other place in the world.

"I'm going to ask Rob for advice. He's pretty good with the real estate. We'll see what happens."

The rap star's new $20 million, 24,000 sq ft club has floors made of 24-karat gold and platinum, 85 plasma TVs and five VIP rooms.

It is scheduled to open in December.

Britney Spears failed to impress with her lacklustre comeback performance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night (09.09.07).

The singer opened the glitzy ceremony at Las Vegas' Pearl Theatre at the Palms Casino Resort by lip-synching her new song 'Gimme More'.

Wearing a sparkly black bra and hot pants, the 25-year-old mother-of-two looked bleary eyed and unfit as she struggled to keep up with her energetic backing dancers, who threw themselves around stripper poles in an S+M-inspired set.

Cameras revealed celebrity guests, including 50 Cent, scoffing at Britney's performance, while Rihanna was seen in fits of laughter.

Following the song, comedienne Sarah Silverman came on stage and sarcastically said: "Was that incredible? Britney Spears, everyone. Wow. She is amazing. She is 25-years-old and she's already accomplished everything she's going to accomplish in her life. It's mind blowing."

MTV officials had reportedly warned Britney - who famously shared a same-sex kiss with Madonna at the 2003 VMAs - to keep her routine family friendly, or risk being kicked off the show.

Rihanna and Britney's ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake were the night's big winners.

Rihanna took home two of the most coveted awards, Video of the Year and Monster Single of the Year for her smash hit 'Umbrella', while Justin was named Male Artist of the year and Quadruple Threat of the Year.

During his acceptance speech for Male Artist of the Year, the heartthrob pop star took the opportunity to criticise MTV for replacing music with reality TV shows.

He said: "I want to challenge MTV right now to play more videos!"

Other winners included Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie, who scooped Female Artist of the Year, Beyonc?nowles and Shakira who won Most Earth-Shattering Collaboration for their song 'Beautiful Liar', Gym Class Heroes who were named Best New Artist and Fall Out Boy who walked away with Best Group.

Bosses at 'Extra' have invited Britney to their studios to "show the world what you've got".

A statement released by the programme said: "'Extra' is opening its doors to Britney Spears for a second chance at a comeback.

"We've made the call to Spears, inviting her to perform at 'Extra' on our stage in Los Angeles or in Las Vegas at the Extra Lounge in Planet Hollywood's Hotel and Resort.

Jude Law has visited war-torn Afghanistan in a bid to promote world peace.

The 'Cold Mountain' star travelled to the war-torn country to film a documentary about the United Nation's Peace Day on September 21, which the UN hopes will see a day-long global ceasefire.

Judevisited British troops, UN diplomats, Afghan government ministers, village elders and "many, many children" during the trip.

He said: "It's amazing. You get there and they are going to school and to market and trying to hold down jobs and the fact that they could be blown to smithereens or every building has bullet holes in it doesn't seem to phase them.

"That said, I didn't have to hear a shot or a single bomb going off."

The trip was organised by Jude's friend Jeremy Gilley, founder of the charity Peace One Day, the driving force behind the idea of Peace Day.

Jeremy claims he only invited Jude "as a joke" and was astounded when he agreed to go.

Despite being kept away from the most dangerous areas, the 34-year-old actor was shocked by the suffering of the country's children.

Jude added to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "I visited some dying babies in hospital in Jalalabad and they looked like chickens, they were so tiny and covered in their own diarrhoea. Those babies were going to die. As a father, that was so painful."

Jude - who is dad to Rafferty, 10, Iris, six, and five-year-old Rudy from his failed marriage to Sadie Frost - plans to fly from the set of his new film 'Repossession Mambo' in Toronto, Canada, to attend a special concert for global peace at London's Royal Albert Hall on September 21.

Jude and Jeremy's documentary is due to premiere next spring.

The billionaire businesswoman has four beloved pet pooches and has already set up a trust fund to take care of them should anything happen to her.

A source told Australia's Woman's Day magazine: "Oprah has a menagerie of animals and she wants them to be pampered for the rest of their lives if she were to die first.

"She has four dogs, plus various other pets, so she rewrote her will to include millions for their care.

"Oprah's a billionaire, so $30 million is not a lot of money if you look at her entire net worth."

The chat show star has two Cocker Spaniels, Sophie and Soloman, and two Golden Retrievers. A third Golden Retriever, Gracie, tragically choked to death in May this year.

Oprah has no children and has previously referred to her dogs as her babies.

The British married couple - who moved to the US in July after David signed a multi-million contract to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy soccer team - enjoyed a late-night workout at Beverly Hills' Hell-Ay's Tony Sports Club/LA.

Spice Girl Victoria reportedly called the gym and demanded an "emergency" Pilates class, while David - who is currently sidelined with a knee injury - had a relaxing massage.

A source told website E! Online: "Victoria called to say she was scheduling an emergency Pilates session - now! As she was taking her class, David requested a massage."
