Whether he’s falsely announcing the death of Cuban President Fidel Castro or lambasting Britney Spears for her recent VMA performance, Perez puts a very personal spin on his “news.”

With the launch of his new VH1 TV show, What Perez Says, his appearance as a contestant on the current season of MTV’s Celebrity Rap Superstar, and his concert series (sold out before the lineup was even announced), this self-proclaimed gossip queen shows no signs of disappearing.

Was tasering FU student Andrew Meyer justified?
During a Q&A session with Senator John Kerry at the University of Florida on Monday, student Andrew Meyer was tasered by security after he was deemed to be disturbing the peace. The incident arose when Meyer had his microphone cut off while he was asking Senator Kerry a series of questions concerning the impeachment of President George W. Bush and Kerry’s membership in Yale’s Order of Skull and Bones.

The event was captured on film and has triggered a debate on the level of force security personnel should execute under such circumstances. Some have labeled the use of nonlethal force on Meyer as a sign of a burgeoning police state, while others, such as UF spokespeople, stressed the importance of maintaining a peaceful environment in order for the free exchange of thoughts and ideas.

Older women actually prefer dating younger men - but would you?
A recent study by the AARP showed that  34% of all women over the age of 40 were dating much younger men, and that 35% of those older women preferred dating them to men their own age. Ageism stereotypes are deflating as our society opens up to to these once-taboo relationships.  

In the celebrity realm, prominent May-December relationships (like that of Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore) are headlining tabloids everywhere, suggesting that age really is just a number. On the other hand, however, news stories of older teachers dating their male teenage students have the public up in arms, damning the whole situation.

California teens banned from cell-phone use while driving
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed a law that bans persons under the age of 18 to use cell phones while they drive. The law will go into effect next July, and will fine first-time offenders $20, then $50 for each subsequent infraction. Adults will still be permitted to use hands-free phones.

Since cell phone etiquette is lacking in many people, we at AskMen.com wouldn't mind seeing them banned from some other places as well. Where are you sick of seeing and hearing people on their mobiles?

Recent years have witnessed plenty of male actors coming out of the closet. From T.R. Knight (Grey's Anatomy) and B.D. Wong (Law & Order) to Nathan Lane (The Producers) and David Hyde Pierce (Frasier), more and more leading men are publicly acknowledging that they are homosexual.

Nevertheless, it still seems that being gay in Hollywood is something of a taboo. Should it be? Would the knowledge that your favorite actor was gay make you not want to see his movies or TV shows?

Bill Belichick was caught spying
There has been a recent rash of spying scandals in professional sports. From the F1’s Team McLaren to Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots, espionage is everywhere. Belichick was caught snapping photos of his opponents, the Jets, last Sunday, and has been fined $500,000 as a result. Team McLaren was caught with technical information that belonged to its chief rival, Ferrari, and has been fined $100 million.

These are serious penalties, but many would argue that they were inspired by serious transgressions. But is spying in sports really a big deal? Given that so much of a team's success is determined off the field -- by agents, lawyers and corporate sponsors -- how much of a difference does insider knowledge really make?

The days of the powerful alpha male on television seem to be receding into the past. The Jack Bauers and Tony Sopranos of the TV world are being replaced by kick-ass bionic women and hard-nosed detectives in heels.

An article in Salon.com this week pointed to how television roles for women have become more empowering in recent seasons, with characters becoming progressively more aggressive, confident and independent than their male costars. Characters like  those portrayed by Kyra Sedgwick The Closer and Michelle Ryan (aka the Bionic Woman) spring to mind.

Given the choice, would you rather have more than one woman? Monogamy has long been established as the social norm in North America, but is it possible that this goes against humankind’s very nature?

Among animals, monogamy is more a myth than a reality -- even swans, often touted as the perfect model of monogamy, do in fact stray. And, according to anthropologists, the overwhelming majority of human societies are either polygamous or have been in the past.

Singer Akon has made no secret of his polygamous bent. As he explained to Vibe.com: “I think the average guy is doing right now. He’s just not married. Everybody that I hang with got multiple girlfriends.” Even so, Akon admits that he would never keep all his girlfriends under the same roof.
